Worst Company I Have Ever Worked For

Pros

I got to meet some really cool people, but those people left a couple of months after I did.

Cons

Where do I begin. This company is so poorly run, it's amazing they are still in business. -- If you work in the US, your opinion doesn't matter. It's all France all the time with this company. But more importantly, you have to embrace France -- There is no HR or anyone to talk to. When I first started, I was promised a bonus after 3 months. At the 3 month mark, I didn't receive the bonus. When I called the "office manager" in Paris, she said "Sorry, I forgot." The bonus was eventually received. -- I was told they had a sales list of over "300 companies" for me to call. There was no list. And when I brought it up, management acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. -- The CEO once told me one of the value propositions of the company was that he went to MIT. His exact words to me were "Tell them I went to MIT. That usually impresses people." The reality is, there were no value props in the US because there was no game plan for the US. -- Upper Management could care less about employees. There is no training, salaries are mediocre at best, and there is nobody to voice your opinion to.

Pros

As eSearchVision is a small team that manages many clients, there is a lot of opportunity to quickly grow within the paid search team. You are expected to learn quickly on-the-job, which, while it can be challenging, does allow you to become an expert in the field much quicker. Where big agencies do not allow junior people to touch anything important, at eSearchVision you will be able to touch projects on many levels. Growth potential is great in the first year or so, after that you are likely to get stuck. The company is very flexible about letting you work remotely whenever there is a need (both professional as well as personal).

Cons

The company is not willing to hire pro-actively, so many times there is too much work to be done which leads to long workdays. There is no clear structure to anything, so it is hard to properly delegate tasks to the correct people and with so many employees being overloaded with work things do get missed. Management, both globally as well as locally, is severely lacking in communication skills, leadership skills, and management skills. While the local teams are great to work in/with, management makes the overall experience at eSearchVision pretty negative. Managers either have their own agenda or seem to be influenced heavily by one person in the team. If management does not like you (on a personal level), you can forget about ever getting a raise or promotion. If management does like you, you are likely to get promotions; however, those promotions do not come with any sort of increased compensation (while obviously responsibilities do increase). Across the board, this company seems to undervalue its employees.

Downwards spiral and questionable ethics

Pros

- Teams tend to have excellent expertise, which is not a given in the agency world. You find some true experts at ESV - Because it's run so cost-consciously, it will take a while to go under - Colleagues are nice and it's a good place to learn, especially early in your career

Cons

- The management of the business has questionable ethics (I witnessed freelancers and suppliers not getting paid) - The agency is in a slow downwards spiral for a number of years - The company is bootstrapped: low pay, no investment in anything
