Pros

The brand name itself is a Pro. I felt that I was working for the elite whilst there. Very well recognised and respected. Mostly good equipment.

Cons

British Gas seem to promote yes men and woman who will just get the job done with no questions asked, regardless of if they’re good managers or not. If the company wants to survive in the modern climate then they need to promote people who challenge them to do better. Otherwise they will follow the same route as most other energy companies that refuse the change. There aren’t many opportunities for people that are outspoken and want things to be better. Anyone with an idea seems to get a pat on the back and then ignored. Systems are diabolically out of date. Which I’m surprised is allowed considering modern GDPR regs. They spend money on unnecessary things without proper thought processes. Such as lots of electric vans that they invested in which were never used due to low mileage capacity. In my time there, they replaced all of our tablets with exactly the same model of tablet, only with windows 10, instead of just updating from windows 7. I suggested a better and cheaper alternative and was told by a senior manager that i didn’t know what I was talking about. Wasn’t even willing to listen to me. Very arrogant and will undoubtedly be a small part in the downfall of British Gas. I worked there for many years and never intended to leave. I quite enjoyed working for the company. But out of the blue they told us on a grainy conference call that our department was going. No thanks for the service and no face to face goodbye. People on my team had been with them for over 40 years but got no thanks or recognition. Very poor on the companies behalf. You cannot expect loyal employees without being a loyal employer.

Pros

Great career over a decade whilst working there. Under the regime of Phil Bentley (former MD), there was excellent growth, and that provided progression.. Good pension scheme, excellent company car options, healthcare plan, great colleagues

Cons

Current culture of disregard for staff, cost cutting without thinking of actual consequence.. Current morale is very low at all levels including managerial. Too much bureaucracy and internal politics, with processes created for the sake of them being there, and no actual benefit.. Input seems to be taken away from management team too.. Salary lower than competition, Manager bonus scheme seems to become harder to achieve in an attempt to cut costs
