Pros
For the most part, I enjoyed my co-workers, the dealership itself is in a good location - busy street, easy to get to, and it is among other car dealerships which helps with walk-in traffic. The building is classy (grand piano in lobby, marble everywhere) clean, well run and well stocked with both new and used cars. The dealership has been around a long time, has some long-term customers and the owner does a good job of supporting the community. The biggest advantage they have is that they are selling Hondas, which are great cars and have a very loyal following.
Cons
Initially I wrote several long paragraphs about the issues that concerned me while I worked at First Honda, but then I started wondering if they might figure out who I was and if I could be sued for libel, so I deleted what I wrote. Basically what you need to know is, they are not customer friendly, their policies make it difficult for the customer to simply get an idea of what the price of the car is, other than full list, until a full credit check is run and the car has been test driven. This really angers some customers who of course take it out on the salesperson. And, if you do buy a car from them, read the contract very carefully to be sure you are not buying "extras" (like a $2000 extended warranty) because you failed to say you specifically do not want the "extras." I had thought the "used car salesman" stereotype was a thing of the past - I was wrong. It takes a certain type of person to be a successful car salesman, and I found I was not one of them. This, like most car sales jobs, is a commission only position and while I was there, only a couple of the 12+ salespeople were making a living - the rest of us were working for what works out to be minimum wage or less.
