Pros
I worked in the education department at Flushing Town Hall for more than five years. The diversity of educational programming is truly remarkable. I had the opportunity to directly implement programs and collaborate with teaching artists from various cultures across a wide range of disciplines, including visual arts, theater, music, dance, juggling, and even cuisine. This variety constantly enriched my learning and professional growth, particularly in education programming, administration, and community outreach.
What truly stood out during my time there was the team. The staff (including teaching artists) and leadership are not only experienced and deeply appreciative of arts, culture, and education, but they are also compassionate, intelligent, and supportive.
There is also a good work-life balance and the staff is encouraged to pursue projects and opportunities for career development.
Cons
This isn't a con, but more of a reminder: the impacts of how the arts transform lives and bring people together take time to fully see.
