Pros

You work with kids all day which is fun You have a lot of freedom on how you do your lessons Your coworkers are for the most part very friendly and nice. Job security with Seishain status, PTO starts at 10/year and increases every year. Biannual Bonus Hard to get fired All-in-all a fairly japanese company, it's not really a black company.

Cons

Upper Management is a headache. Things pass up the chain of command and its slow to get a response or the information you need. You are locked into only an hour of prep a day which is very limiting when you are new. You are at the mercy of how nice your principal is. If you get a bad one it can be quite hard to get by. You are probably going to be the only person who speaks English at your school so if you are unable to speak Japanese you will have a hard time communicating and you may feel isolated because of it. Very low pay. (23,0000/month) The big one- There is hardly any career path here. Do not expect any promotions or increase in Salary while you are here. The few who did receive a promotion to become English Leaders during my time here and they ultimately ended up keeping all their old former responsibilities while gaining a whole new plate to keep up. All for maybe a 50,000 yen/month pay bump.

Pros

Working at HOPPA as an English teacher has been a really good experience so far. Most schools are friendly, the kids are great, and the staff are supportive. It looks like that there are new chances to grow in the company, which makes it feel like there’s a future here if you want it. The English management is also pretty active, they listen to feedback and are always trying to improve things for teachers, which makes a big difference day to day.

Cons

Honestly, there aren’t many cons. Sure, like any job it can get busy or a bit tiring sometimes, but overall it’s a really positive place to work and it keeps getting better as the company grows.

Pros

You get a 正社員 (seishain, with no expiration date) contract after 1,5 years of working in the company, You become a candidate in 1 year, you meet like-minded foreigners who live in Japan no overtime 2 bonuses a year that are equal to your monthly salary Managers Danny and Andre are very professional and helpful. Both are understanding of one's situation if you give a good explanation of it. Freedom to have your own teaching style and materials.
