Pros

A great mission, and excellent people on the ground trying to deliver that mission.

Cons

Immature leadership with unrealistic expectations including no recognized federal holidays in the PTO plan, and excessive work requirements that don't recognize the sacrifices people make to work for the company and the mission. Leadership does not communicate well, and is disconnected from the impact of their decisions and poor communication on employees. ES claims "non-accrual PTO" but publishes calculators and guidelines that are accrual based, so that it's clear that "non-accrual" is just a way to avoid compensating people for their work. Uncompetitive compensation and PTO packages. Misrepresents terms of employment. Does not deliver on commitments but expects employees to find ways to make them successful at a very high personal cost. Annual employment contracts set the terms for bonuses, but contracts are not delivered until the employment term is over (in December 2023 for the employment year), much too late to act on, so revealed as a ploy to avoid paying bonuses. I wanted to love working here. Work is never all fun, and leadership must always do things that aren't fully understood by employees on the ground. But the leadership team is amateurish, apparently incapable of maturing, does not listen to feedback, does not reward contribution, and appears to be less interested in the mission than in finding ways to avoid compensating their employees.

We will continue to address the some of the growing pains you mention above such as addressing the misconception that working 2040 hours is a company requirement, rather than a target number. Our policy guarantees a minimum of four weeks paid time off.

Pros

Flexible work from home policy

Cons

Mandated over 40 hours per week with no OT with some BS excuse of "an extra 30 minutes a day helps us achieve the impossible". They tout "unlimited PTO" but then inundate you with a ton of work to the point where you can't really go anywhere, and guilt you if you try to take time off. I was retroactively denied vacation by my manager after it having to be a term of my employment due to a previously booked vacation prior to my start date. Nobody takes lunch breaks and if you do you are given the cold shoulder. False expectations set up during interview and on-boarding process (my job didn't even match what I was asked to do prior to starting). Promotions only happen once a year, so you have to wait until that date even if you are deserving prior to then. No cost of living increase given if you start mid-year. False expectations about job description. If you disagree with management you are seen as insubordinate as they don't take the advice of their direct reports. They don't care about good ideas if you are below them on the totem pole. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is I suggest you work literally anywhere else. Of all my jobs in the past 10 years, this one sits at the bottom of the barrel in terms of good places to work

Energy Solutions seeks to be a fair and flexible employer, so this employee’s experience of not being able to take lunch breaks or a vacation planned before coming on board was a missed opportunity on our part. Much of this person's feedback was related to the supervisor, and we are in the process of improving our supervisor training to enhance the skills of all our supervisors. We appreciate this reviewer communicating their experience and will leverage the feedback to improve the company for our current and future employees.

Pros

- Other staff really want to make a difference - Interesting products to work on

Cons

- Company expects staff to work 2040 hours in a year. That is ONE WEEK OFF per year, including federal holidays, sick leave, and vacation COMBINED - C-Suite (Sam Cohen, Christopher Burmeister, etc) are severely out-of-touch with rank and file staff; they just do not care about input from staff or the negative consequences of their decisions on staff - After employees submitted complaints about the 2040 hours policy, the executive team brushed them aside. They do not listen to employees, even as they claim Energy Solutions is an "employee-owned company" (it isn't) - Low salary for the expectations

We appreciate your feedback. All full-time salaried employees at Energy Solutions are eligible for a minimum of four weeks of paid time off and, depending on amount of time worked, are eligible for additional time off beyond that to offset extra hours works. Energy Solutions also provides paid time off as required for sick leave in addition to time off taken for other reasons. Our paid time off policy encourages flexibility of working styles and schedules. We also recognize that all jobs can require extra effort at times and gives back any additional time worked to employees in the form of extra time off later in the year. This policy has been popular with most of our employees but we recognize that some employees do not fully understand the benefit and we are actively working to address that. We have provided a detailed FAQ in response to employee questions and feedback on our time off policy and will be updating this resource regularly as new questions arise. We will continue to work to address questions received by our Employee Engagement Discussion Group, department leaders, Supervisors, and our People and Culture Department.
