      Almost a real utopia

Jan 7, 2021 - Contingent Worker in Singapore

      Pros

You get to work with really positive, energetic, and smart people. The environment is incredibly supportive and flexible. However, I have heard different departments have different cultures so it depends on your luck too.

      Cons

The line is drawn very clearly between FTEs and contingent workers. Should you choose to take on a contractual role in FB, you need to be mentally prepared that you will be treated as a "2nd class citizen" and not all FTEs will be sensitive about it as they brag about their benefits in your face.

One of the best places to learn, work and create genuine impact

      Pros

      - Great benefits - food, nice office, snacks, entertainment, transport fees, etc. - Smart people who are motivated and gets thing done quickly. - Little to no politics - Your work is meaningful and impactful even as an intern - Open communication - HR and office culture are 30 years ahead of everyone else

      Cons

      - Might be a bit tough if you're an introvert like me, you need to be more open and talk to a lot more people to learn (totally my fault) - Might feel work is not as impactful depending on role

      Great company to work for!

      Pros

Overall, my experience working at Facebook was awesome. Lot of smart people, interesting projects, dynamic company, great leadership, great perks, etc. I really liked feeling that we're all in the same boat, one huge team working on a common objective.

      Cons

If you get a bad manager it can be hard to deal with. The commute is a pain if you live in SF. The shuttles are great, it's just that the 101 gets worse everyday. But of course, at least is closer than Google or other companies. The company is growing fast, so it's getting harder to have a lot of impact.

      Best company to work for

      Pros

This is one of the best company I worked for in my 25year career. Extremely employee focussed, great benefits and caring. Work culture is very competitive, surrounded by very smart people and always one need to up the game to keep up. There are tons of opportunities to learn, grow and prosper. It is always motivating to work in a place where the product helps billions of people around the world.

      Cons

Salary may not be astronomically high compared to other bigwigs, yearly salary raise is lower too.

Great colleagues, management can be poor or indecisive

      Pros

Great colleagues, smart people, drive and collective mission, free perks (food, snacks, drinks), new spacious office and swag

      Cons

Workload, everyone is aiming to move up/across the "jungle gym", it's who you know and how you manage "the game", constantly have to talk up or post your achievements/client meetings.

Totally OverRated & Below Expection for Company Culture

      Pros

Great places to meet like minded & smart people

      Cons

      - Contractors treated like second class - Some people do care less when they know you are contractor - Leveraging on you till your contract end - Lack of transparency, openess & repect due to being a contractor - Do not expect too much as a contractor - Not adding value tasks was given

Nice People; Large & Siloed Teams

Jun 2, 2020 - Recruiter in Menlo Park, CA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Good pay - Nice, smart people - You have support for everything. There is a team at Facebook for referrals, DEI, recruiting tools, compensation, immigration, etc. If you need something, there is definitely a team for it. This is a pro and a con. - Worked here for 4 years and genuinely felt like my manager had my back.

      Cons

      - Large, convoluted teams. There are so many recruiting support teams that you don't know who to turn to for help at times. Also, there are times when I can manage something myself, but am forced to hand it over to a supporting team because it's "their job". - They place a huge emphasis on doing recruiting projects. If you're not doing a recruiting project, forget about being promoted. Doing excellent recruiting and closing lots of roles is NOT enough. This emphasis on project work leads to people literally making up meaningless projects just to say they're doing extra work. It's a part of the culture that really needs to change.

Strong, supportive company culture where I feel valued

Oct 5, 2020 - Product Specialist in Menlo Park, CA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

From the long list of benefits that my family and I can take advantage of, to the inclusive, supportive, hard-working company culture, I couldn't be happier working at FB. You're surrounded by really smart people who care just as much as you do about the work and impact you can make here. Giving and receiving feedback is highly valued. You have the opportunity to grow and develop the skill sets that you want to - you don't necessarily feel like a cog, even though the company is huge and growing.

      Cons

Company is growing so quickly - potentially faster than the company is able to keep up with in a sustainable way.

      Overrated, unstructured, chaotic

Jan 15, 2021 - Software Engineer in London, England, England
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Competitive salary in the location, good perks. Good internal tools. Good Learning opportunities. Smart people working. Good facilities, while the offices were open.

      Cons

Can't agree with some of the company values. Also, what they advertise as company values, they don't actually adhere to. Censorship, and toxic culture in general. You can't be open unless you support a particular side. People have been driven out by the toxic culture for having wrong opinions, unless they are able to suppress themselves. As engineers you will have to constantly look for what to work on, this adds extra responsibilities. There are very less product managers, program managers, etc., so all those responsibilities have to be taken by engineers. Too fast paced, sometimes just for the sake of pace or 'impact'. Unstructured environment, teams will continue recruiting more and more without having much clarity on what to work on.
