      Pros

Schedules are pretty consistent with what hours you want to work. Coworkers all get along and are awesome. It's a great place to stir your creativity and help you gain knowledge in products and installation.

      Cons

The company does not offer tuition reimbursement compared to places like Lowes, Home Depot, and Walmart.

Avoid working here unless ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY

      1 Dec 2022 - Designer
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

If you are a Designer who went to school. The only pro is you learn about tile and installation. It’s actually detrimental to your career if you want to work as a Designer outside of here. You will not use any of the programs your learned in school. You work with a program that’s not recognized outside of retail places. It’s impossible to build an actual portfolio and if you do have a large project it’s give to the inhome designers. There is no such thing as a work/life balance as a designer. You get 1 weekday off. And you work every Saturday unless your work the following Sunday. So you may get one Saturday off a month depends on how many designers your store has you may be required to work more.

      Cons

This is not a real Design job. This is a SALES POSITION. Designers have to learn every department, help warehouse, load heavy tile, be cashiers, and help other department straighten tile/wood and clean tile displays. All stores have the same design sales goal even though we aren’t all staffed the same. You can’t design outside of floor and decor and it gets repetitive fast. Product doesn’t change often and you’re gonna be recreating the same thing over and over. If your are looking to design, do space planning, specifications etc then please do not work here. If you are looking for a career in design the highest you can go is a Design Supervisor and after that your have to move out of design to go further, but don’t expect to. They want you to use these programs but won’t give you time to learn them and they don’t have knowledge of them either. If your store is Empty you have to still walk around the store all day because sitting down is highly discouraged for anyone except Pro. They will have you cold calling customers to get them in the store. There is a huge problem with favoritism between employees managers and higher ups, because they are relatives or in relationships with each other. Don’t expect real training, you will watch almost two weeks work of videos and then you’re out on the floor to “earn” your red vest. Designers are expected to dress nicer but you will ruin your clothes because you are in a warehouse and expected to do the dirty work too. They do not promote from within they hire out and expect you to train them. Management will tell you to do something then throw you under the bus when the higher ups dont like it. Favorite employees will get treated to lunch with the bosses for a specific achievement but when others reach that same achievement they are overlooked. EXPECT to be short staffed everyday and expect to pick up the slack for every department even when they are here but are busy tasking instead of helping the customer in their dept. Managers are always in the back and take forever to give overrides and/or come help solve customer issues who specifically want a manager. Dont expect to use your vacation when you want, it depends on what other ppl in your dept have going on. They will NOT give employees full time but will work them full time hours for more than 90days and not review their position and you aren’t in the position to say anything cause they will cut your hours. RETALIATION is a huge thing here and it comes in various forms. Don’t expect CONFIDENTIALITY from your managers they will tell everyone including other team members your business. Overall if this is your first job then work here learn what you can and move on FAST.
