Nepotism and burnout

Pros

You don’t have to deal with downtown traffic. The office is next to a metro station, which is convenient.

Cons

Below industry salaries. Nepotism and cronyism is rampant. Due to recent turn overs, they are severely short staffed and burn out is common. No HR department. No full-time senior executives.

Pros

You will gain much experience, and it's a pretty casual place to work depending on what department you are in, some are less demanding than others. Free food is given, and you'll be able to work without micromanaging (but that might not be true anymore since the head of Recruitment and the VP have left). While the company attitude isn't the best, the employees really band together to help each other and motivate each other. The company works despite upper management.

Cons

Doesn't promote from within, and if they do it's lateral movement with little to no pay bump. CEO isn't in touch with her employees, and decided to ignore her mission statement to focus only on "big-ticket" cases, rather than actually choosing cases where FG would make a real difference to people (i.e. deciding to stop taking certain medical malpractice cases as they don't net the company much money, even though those cases built our integrity and made attorneys want to choose us since we weren't typical hired guns). There are numerous meetings that resolve nothing, yet are mandatory and cause the entire place to shut down for hours; some meetings are forced TEDtalks that have little to do with either employee morale or actual work issues. The Client Services department is overworked constantly with pay that isn't commensurate to their abilities. Case Management is also overworked and paid little, but they also are the scapegoat of the office when anything goes slightly wrong. Recruitment is also blamed for Sales not being able to close deals, even though it's rarely their fault and due to Sales promising what cannot be delivered. CEO also hired young family: one that was ill-prepared to fill in HR's shoes, and one that was incapable of meeting any deadline to roll out new software for us (and yet wasn't reprimanded by management in any way).

Pros

Most co-workers are courteous and professional. There are occasional free lunches, about 1-2 per month, but usually pizza. You might work with great people and experts depending on your role in the company. It's a decent place to get work experience and move on.

Cons

They treat employees like cogs in a machine and micro-management is a serious issue. Your conversations might be monitored. CEO is out of touch with operations and passive-agressive. There's high turn-over because of stress, lack of appreciation, and politics.
