Pros

The pay and benefits are decent. And if you happen to be in any of the minority groups getting diversity and inclusion media coverage and also can work office politics to your advantage, you’ve got a shot at rapid advancement in highly visible roles. GOJO desperately wants to be seen as being on trend here, so you can use that to your advantage.

Cons

Intentional ambiguity. They tell you upfront how ambiguous everything is, but never do anything to make it better. Leadership uses it as an excuse for bad behavior. They used to really care about employees. But that changed once their new leadership team took over a couple years ago. If you can pull off creating the perception that you care, but deep down you ruthlessly don’t, you’re a good candidate for leadership at GOJO. GOJO has become very cut throat and political. I worked there for many years and loved that the culture was authentic, caring and non-political, but that drastically changed in the past couple years. This is a family-owned business on its 3rd generation of owners. This generation is the first to be born into extreme wealth. They don’t understand, appreciate, or relate well to the common people breaking their backs to sustain their lavish lifestyle. GOJO discriminates against older workers. You reach a certain age there and they either move you into a lame role or let you go.

Pros

Paid Time off and holidays were good, benefits are okay, but could be better, and the people you work with are amazing. Work from home is excellent, only thing that kept me for as long as it did.

Cons

Upper management makes terrible business decisions, and then places the blame on the workforce, especially sales. Obviously they had a record breaking year in 2020, but sales can't always be through the roof like this. Buying up more warehouse space, ethenol plants, and the desire to continually go green set the company back so far, they did workforce reductions multiple times per year beginning in 2021 to make up for it. When the workforce is cut, remaining employees are expected to "pitch in" and "do your part" for the better of the company, but that means added stress and being overworked. People aren't feeling like part of the family when they aren't getting competitive raises, bonuses are cut due to "low sales" and poor business decisions. Ultimately, the company has either cut a lot of good folks or many of us have left due to the current conditions. Their new "transparent pay" grades are ridiculous, as they basically tell you they're only paying you 75-85% of the midpoint for that role, when the midpoint is questionable compared to that of similar roles at other companies. I would not recommend working here.

If “History Will Repeat Itself” Were a Company

Pros

There are some truly incredibly intelligent and hard working people at GOJO. Prior to leaving the company on my own accord, I worked with some of the best in the industry. Benefits are decent. Being the inventors of hand sanitizer is a pretty nice claim to fame.

Cons

*Leadership decision making *Corrupt HR *Lack of growth opportunities GOJO provides its employees with next to no autonomy to make decisions. Decisions require multiple hoops to jump through and buy in and input from so many people that results in hours and hours of rework that doesn’t necessarily add value to the end product. GOJO leadership somehow managed to take a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with a global pandemic and squander it to the point of no return. After the company did something similar during the H1N1 pandemic, you’d think they would have learned from their mistakes. Not only did they not learn, but they took all of the things they did wrong and applied them 10-fold to their approach to the COVID pandemic. This resulted in gross over investments, ultimately requiring the company to sell off facilities specifically purchased to support pandemic demand and cut hundreds of valued roles and dedicated employees. The HR team is pathetically lacking in competence and ethical guide. The goal is to hire only those who are yes men/women who will go along with whatever is asked of them - even when that borderlines illegal activity. Harassment, inappropriate relationships, sexual misconduct - all fair game for the GOJO HR team. The more unethical and inept you are, the better you’ll do as a member of this HR team. If you’re looking to grow to advance in your career, look elsewhere. High-performing employees will remain in the same roles without any meaningful advancement or skill growth for 5-10 years. This applies to both corporate and plant employees. Unless it’s required by OSHA, the FDA, or some other governing body, plant employees do not ever see training or advancement opportunities.
