Pros

Creative work environment where you can effect your businesses on all levels. The stores are a NYC institution with a unique mix of price/product.

Cons

The sales staff is poorly managed by department managers. A lot of associates have been working there for years and are stuck in their ways. Buying staff is first to blame when something goes wrong. Buyers are asked to do a lot outside of job description. HR manager is cold and extremely disconnected with staff needs.

Pros

This job has a convenient location, and gives off the illusion of a quality store with high-end merchandise.

Cons

In the first year I worked for the company, I counted over 30 layoffs and firings--not including staff that had quit/resigned. After that, I stopped counting because I couldn't keep up a mental tally. The store was indebted to its vendors and went into credit hold. This was troubling news for customers who had placed special orders--some paid hundreds, while others paid thousands of dollars for merchandise that was not available to them for several months. During this time, the corporate office decided to strip employees of their store discount. My first and only raise was .25¢. There were more than 3 changes in store managers during my tenure. My manager would never post a weekly schedule, and the hours were always inconsistent. He would send me my hours at the last minute, before the start of the new week, and then get offended if I made other plans.
