A downhill slide

Pros

* Awesome people (most of whom lost their jobs in layoffs) * Beautiful building and location in central NJ * On-site cafe with good food * Casual dress code * Excellent opportunities for learning

Cons

* Layoffs are a constant threat * No company direction - constantly shifting priorities without any plan to make a profit * C-level are all middle-aged men who don't care about anyone but themselves * Everyone is underpaid * The culture has changed from very open and caring to a misguided cost-cutting scramble

It used to be so good

Pros

Amazing work life balance, interesting projects, great team, cool office building, open PTO.

Cons

No bonuses, no recognition by senior management for outstanding performance, tiny raises, recent mass firing resulted in 20+ employees being given only 2 weeks severance each - even those who had been there for 10+ years - and benefits discontinued at midnight. Senior management does not care about employees. HR is disinterested and in denial. This is all really sad because the company has the potential to be pretty close to the perfect place to work.

Disorganized and stuck in the past.

Pros

Nice office, pretty good food on-site, small on-site gym

Cons

Company is in the middle of nowhere, geographically and philosophically. Tend to hire people who they consider “experts” and then not listen to them, often hiring people to do a job, then not letting them do that job, then laying them off. Need to make a MASSIVE change in direction, but afraid to follow through on anything that doesn’t work overnight. Living in the past and banking on dead-end technologies is not going to help this company succeed. CEO seems to be a nice guy, but is very out of touch today’s software development needs and direction. Strategy doesn’t make any sense. Layoffs out of nowhere, usually effecting the people trying the hardest to make things better.
