Pros
Free time to work on your own projects, overall nice students -that's it.
Cons
If you are considering either a stable, long-term job or a high-paying work, please, stay away from Interac. Consider this a short-term job ONLY to get into Japan. Let me elaborate a few negative points about Interac: 1. EXTREMELY low salary -Interac pays its full-time ALTs a below-the-market salary - approximately 190,000 yen after taxes. It is ludicrous to believe that someone can live with that amount per month in Japan, especially if you have a family to support. But the WORSE part of it is - Interac is paid 560,000 yen for YOUR services. That means that you are only getting 40% of what is paid for your work. 2. Useless trainings. 1x there is training and the content is just useless and a waste of time - they require 2h spent on training. 3. Managers show up out of nowhere to watch your classes. Usually, they come in 3 and tend to criticize you after the class. 4. Japanese coworkers tend to talk behind your back and they usually find a way to let Interac know. 5. Interac clearly states that you don't need to speak Japanese, only to tell you later that you do.

Depends where you're placed. Each BOE has different standards

-Easy way to get a visa in Japan -As of now, Japan is granting longer than a 1 year visa after your first year in Japan -Interac helps set up, home, bank accounts, phone, and adjusting life in Japan -Lots of free time to explore Japan. Free Summers and 2-3 weeks of winter vacation -Japan has randomly holidays where you get days off in between the week. -Interaction with other English speaking teachers. ( To share in each other's plight)
Cons
-Pay isn't very good, definitely save your first year since it's not taxed as much -The staff I worked with was very unorganized and or gave last minute arrangements for schools or events. -Too much micromanaging for the smallest mishaps at school (seems that's the Japanese ways) -No to little pay raise -Unnecessary assessment tests given, which hold no merit other than to make the company look good -Had no incentive plan or options to learn the Japanese language -Depending on placement, you may be isolated from other English teachers

Good for getting into Japan but long term not great

Depending on the school You can get a lot of free time to study Japanese Choice over which region in Japan you would like to go Flexible with taking time off Good support network as regards to getting you the help you need such as a doctor or someone to talk with you when your feeling stressed out. Although this might only be a regional thing .
Cons
Poor inadequte training crammed into a mind melting one week training week with all susbsequent folow up training sesions being completly pointless, and not really teaching you anything new. - Although they will pay for a tefl if the BOE your in requires it. Poor pay , I would requmend bringing a lot more than what they recomend to bring as the pay is just barely enough and the pro rated month at the beginnng of a new contract is killer and I`ve had to take a loan out with interac before because they didnt even pay me enough to live. Confusing job description although this might be for all ALTS (Does anyone definitively know what the job description of an ALT is?)

A good short term experience or first step to transitioning to Japan

I received great support for general life needs (immigration paperwork, translating mail, help with apartment issues). There are also online resources like lesson plans and worksheets to help run/plan classes. The limited hours give you plenty of free time.
Cons
Salary is comparatively low for the industry. Initial expectations can be a little fuzzy and feel a bit hand waved by the Every Situation Is Different catchphrase. The way proration and increasing taxes impact your salary after the first couple years wasn't fully explained. The path for advancement is very limited and competitive.

Decent but lower pay

Free time. Depends on the school. For the most part the kids are fun to teach. Decent amount of follow up training.
Cons
A lot of free time. Depends on the school. Very limited in what you can do to handle misbehaving students.

An awesome way to get into Japan. A great way to explore countryside Japanese culture if it interests you. Good for recently graduated students with little to no debt in their name Every position is different. Some are extremely challenging and others are very easy giving you a lot of free time.
Cons
Initial training is good, but ongoing training throughout the year is mostly irrelevant. Peers teaching peers would be more beneficial. The salary is low, especially in urban areas where car rental is not included in your contract. The default housing contracts are reasonable initially but quickly make you feel ripped off after more than one year.
