Pros

There were some fun employee events, infrequent but still fun, and I met some really solid people, many of whom have become great friends of mine. Even through the constant chaos, I did manage to learn some new skills so that was a plus.

Cons

There was zero work/life balance. I’ve worked in traditionally difficult environments and in other startups and this was by far the worst in terms of boundaries. Managers questioned why you were taking sick/personal days, would constantly contact you well after hours then criticize you for not responding (example, was called at 1am then was scolded in the morning that I didn’t pick up, because I was asleep). Frequent changes in priorities/process coupled with lack of communication made it almost impossible to meet deadlines. You could regularly pull 100+ hour weeks (no exaggeration, as many employees during my time there worked almost every weekend) and still feel totally behind. When any of these issues were brought to upper management, they were generally dismissed or down played. Some takeaways: numerous employees, some of whom were very senior, quit on the spot with no notice, stellar employees who happened to be vocal about their issues with project direction or senior leadership decisions were let go due to “performance issues”, out of the dozens of people I started with, only one person still works at the company (most of the rest left voluntarily)

Nightmare! Not Worth It!

Pros

Literally the most amazing, talented, caring, supportive and brilliant colleagues you can ever imagine! Jetblack is great at hiring only the best well-rounded employees. Walmart also values employees and that gives some hope that things might change for the better when hope is lost in the toxic work environment at Jetblack. Walmart also has amazing benefits, and that's a huge plus!

Cons

The CEO is toxic and has no clue what she is doing. She spreads her toxicity and it affects every inch of the company including the senior leadership team. They are all helpless, but it's their choice to run with it so that's their burden to deal with. Imagine 1 person trying to run a 200+ employee company by trying to do everyone's job except hers. There is no hope as long as she remains CEO.

Pros

There is definitely room for growth at Jetblack, and I have seen many of my peers given amazing opportunities to be mentored by some really brilliant people. The startup culture of Jetblack, even though it is completely funded by Walmart, definitely allowed opportunities that people may not have gotten in larger and more traditional companies.

Cons

The company ramped up way too quickly and onboarded members at a furious speed. Myself and fellow Agent's were so busy with our work that we would have to ask to go to the bathroom. Given that the conversations were live between us and the customers, and we were expected to answer in record speed, there was no time to grab a glass of water. Our 15 minute breaks, required by law and rarely taken due to the workload, began getting assigned to us on an excel spreadsheet. If you missed it, you weren't allowed to take it. Things got so bad that 15 tenured Agent's quit within a month. Management bribed the leftover Agent's with American Express gift cards to take on more shifts. While work hours were never clearly labeled, if you come into work at 9:30 AM there is an unsaid expectation that you stay until 7:00 PM. The vacation policy at Jetblack is terrific, but when you do take a vacation, you are bombarded with messages. On weekends, you are expected to answer. If you don't, expect a passive aggressive conversation from your higher ups. There is no work / life balance. Currently, Jetblack is being crucified by articles from notable sources like Forbes, Wall Street Journal and Business Insider. I can confirm that more than half of the people working at Jetblack agree that everything is run backwards. People are constantly putting bandages on issues without a legitimate fix in the pipeline. It's the reason that so many talented people are walking away from Jetblack and leaving bad reviews on this website. It's draining to have the weight of a failing business on your back with the expectation to meet aggressive goals. If you like somebody putting swimmies on you and pushing you into the water with absolutely no insight or direction - this may the job for you.
