Pros

Small Business environment in terms of knowing your co-worker. Used to be laid-back but that is vastly changing.

Cons

CEO decided to take the company that was a close-knit, family-like, care-free atmosphere and turn it into a Corporate environment. It has all of the cons of a corporate and small-business but none of the benefits of either. Low pay, poor benefits, unmatched-401k, No chance for promotions. They have been hemorrhaging employees.

Pros

good employees, but even those are leaving at a rapid rate

Cons

old technology stack, claim to be agile but embrace waterfall to the fullest, staff are treated like cogs in a machine, even the leadership team doesn't know what they actually want, decisions are being made by people who don't understand the technology being used, promises made to the staff are never fulfilled, chief operations officer is a technophobe and makes company wide decisions based on outdated or not applicable literature

Pros

Opie is a solid company for UF students just coming out of college, and they aren't too draconian with the "unlimited" PTO. Coworkers are friendly, but don't expect anyone to stick around too long as turnover is crazy.

Cons

Opie's problems start at the top- the CEO is entirely too hands on with the day to day operation of the company and changes direction seemingly at a whim, leading to unclear objectives, dropped projects in the middle of development, horrible tech debt, and overall a general energy of rebranding and starting "Opie X.0" about as often as people leave the company. They have a competitive advantage of a niche market and being a first-mover, but if you work here, expect to be working on whatever the next big thing is, instead of their stated goal of building a solid foundation and modernizing their bread and butter client. There is no clear vision at the top, and that trickles down and impacts every facet of the day to day operation of the company. Pay is set at "Gainesville" rates, meaning they will pay you as little as they can, which affects their ability to draw talent that isn't fresh out of college. It's worth the tradeoff if you have no professional experience, but your value will quickly eclipse your compensation, and the company doesn't have the resources or wherewithall to promote or raise employees to a competitive salary.
