A Company in Crisis

Pros

Nice building, free coffee, fun company events. Fast paced environment with cool tech.

Cons

CEO has history of verbally abusing employees including personal attacks and swear words. Also stokes his ego by belittling employees in front of customers. Also attacks customers behind their backs, attacking their intelligence, physical appearance or their company in general. Unethical behaviours any time money is involved: bill customers when they shouldn't, screw employees out of quarterly bonuses, and beating up vendors and underpaying them. People are treated like cogs in a machine for making money, not valued resources. Key resources are burning out and upper leadership doesn't care. Mantra is still "work harder, work more". Work- life balance is terrible. Company lacks a shared vision, which results in divisions constantly battling with each other. Upper leadership believes this competition between teams is healthy, so unlikely to change. Very little opportunity for advancement. Complete lack of training for new hires. Pay is not competitive. Benefits get worse every year and cost the employee more. Overall, a very toxic place to work.

Calling all workaholics!

Pros

Fun teams, flexible working times, open concept work space, outgoing company events.

Cons

No one cares if you have too much work. People and projects are dollar signs and that’s it. Success is measured by profit earned, not on positive customer relationships. Expect to work nights and weekends, and stress about the bottom line in every situation. Cliquey environment allows management to run the board.

Demoralizing

Pros

You will like your grunt-level teammates. They're generally good people who are fun to work with.

Cons

You are paid below industry average. Raises will not cover inflation let alone increases in insurance premiums. You will not be given the tools you need to succeed. Training is nearly non-existent, timelines are unrealistic, and management is focused solely on figuring out ways to bill customers for everything we do. Budgets and time entry take up most of your time here, not your actual work for customers. Making suggestions for improvements is encouraged, but then never acted on. Emails to coworkers and managers go unanswered for days, sometimes weeks. Quality is something management talks about a lot, but they have an understaffed QA team that is constantly scapegoated, and not given resources to do their work. Dev and QA are not allowed to make decisions on whether software ships, it's all about customer deadlines. Company events are fun, but will be planned on days of major software releases when it is least convenient for average level workers or customers. Development is often outsourced to developers in China, and it can be difficult to work with the differing time zone and language barrier.
