Pros

Great staff in most departments, awesome students, and some excellent faculty.

Cons

Some upper management lack empathy and concern for staff and faculty. Major budget deficit means frequent periods of layoffs and poor pay. Think of this job as a stepping stone — not a landing spot.

Pros

My supervisor is great Student leaders are awesome A great deal of influence God is there. Diversity is becoming more of a priority. It's a great place to bring about change. Also, there is a lot of great people to work with...some of the greatest to be quite honest. You will fall in love with this place and this position. Simpson is definitely rising up into a new era and I believe the best is yet to come...it's just going to take the time that I, unfortunately, don't have.

Cons

Even though they are coming out of it, Simpson is still financially in a hole. It's the same old, understaffed, and under-resourced scenario that leaves most staff burnt out. The new administration is progressive but still top-down and micro managey through pretty much the entire institution.

Pros

Nice office. Great students who really want to learn.

Cons

After almost a decade in higher education, including the last six years at this institution, the pay is still half of what I make at the local community college. They do not pay you for your office hours, but Mandy that you hold them. They do not pay you for training, but highly suggest that you attend. Resources are limited, and professors are made to navigate things mostly on their own. The departments are small and there’s only three people in my department – and yet we are all basically still strangers. You do it for the students! You do it In the name of education! You do it because it’s what you chose to do with your profession. you won’t promote, you won’t get a flexible schedule, you won’t get a COLA increase like other institutions, you won’t get training with pay.
