Generous benefits but slow to change
14 May 2023 - Teacher in SingaporeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Wonderful families and students, competitive overseas hire package, generous classroom budget
Cons
Change is glacial. The organization is so big that decisions often have to pass through many layers of bureaucracy. Many of the educators and administrators have been there for 20+ years unconsciously try to protect what they have always known because it feels safe, rather than truly take a risk on innovation and embrace failing forward in a way that would make the organization a truly nimble learning organization. Teachers are often overloaded with top-down initiatives.

Great for foreign staff - just ok for locals
21 Jul 2022 - Anonymous Employee in SingaporeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Teachers are payed well and have lots of opportunities for personal and professional development such as access to financial advisors, endless opportunities to take on additional paid gigs such as summer camps and the option to get advanced degrees through university partnerships. Efforts are being made to offer professional development to local staff.
Cons
The divisions operate in silo so your experience can vary a lot depending on which part of the school you work in. Many leaders have been in their roles for years and are attached to old ways of doing things, sometimes with seemingly little regard for best practice. Getting things done can be a matter of who you know, rather than what’s aligned with the mission. Also, there’s a clear class dividing line between foreign and local staff.

Good Flexibility, Bad Management
28 Aug 2022 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Most of the people I worked around is very friendly. Good place for work life balance.
Cons
Lucky if you get a good superior, wasn't the case for me. Even if you work more than a few years, the bad superior will misuse their title to do what they want. So It is really your luck. Some superiors there are really understanding but unfortunately mine was out to torment me.

More can be done for Career Progression
24 Jan 2022 - Tech SupportRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good working hours that allows work life balance and there are shuttle service from the school to the nearest MRT Station.
Cons
Not much career progression. When you join them as a tech, most likely you will leave being tech as well. Even if you have gain more knowledge or skills over the years Most of the job with better prospect are taken up by a particular group of ethics. most of the time when there are issue, they would speaks in their language that most locals don't understand. When there are openings available. These groups would choose their own kind which may not have the experience than promoting the staff internally.

Pros
1. Good working environment, 2. Nice colleagues. 3. students are cute 4. parents are very supportive. 5. Leaders are supportive
Cons
Singapore is expensive; A big organization means change happens slowly. Not enough non-teaching staff with technical or relevant skills/experience. Feels like there are too many upper management/administrator/high-level educator positions being allocated. Too much “big ideas” people and not enough lower-level people with the right technical skills to assist in implementing the big ideas effectively. The question “Do we actually need another director?” has popped up a few times. Upper management may not be “on the ground” enough to understand or be empathetic to the needs of its employees. Inter-department work isn’t as collaborative or cooperative as it should be, and work processes become insular. E.g experience of a prospective parent is disjointed when admissions, marketing/comms and IT (virtual/online registration/data recording) are not on the same page. Upper management should set the tone. Turnover for upper management roles feels more frequent too. This is concerning as they are supposed to lead staff to meet the goals of the SAS strategic plan.
