Good training. Bad work life balance.
18 Jul 2021 - Associate in London, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good training. Great clients. No billable hours.
Cons
Demanding partners. Long hours. Pay not as competitive as other firms where you work similar hours.
- Former Employee, more than 3 years★★★★★
Pros
no billable hours has created a very supportive culture. Great place to train and to learn.
Cons
perhaps remuneration could be better but generally no cons.

Top notch M&A, public company work
3 Feb 2020 - Anonymous Employee in Hong KongRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-top 2/3 firms in terms of public company representation in HK, strong in public & private M&A for strategic clients - excellent training and experience; partners are usually capable and hands-on - associates given responsibility early (mid level and sometimes junior associates are expected to report to partners directly rather than senior associates) - there are exceptions but generally speaking not a sweat shop compared with other magic circle firms -no billable target, bonus paid equally to all associates -most people are nice, few “dickheads”
Cons
-pay is on par with magic circle but far below US firms these days -strong in strategic clients but zero capability in PE, if you are interested in PE of predominately private M&A you should look elsewhere; capital markets practice is also second tier -office sharing (maybe I have a bias but I really don’t like sharing office with another associate) -some partners can come across as eccentric and not easy to deal with (probly not unique to Slaughters) -promotion prospects limited (again, not unique to Slaughters); separate partnership track for HK office which is not part of the London partnership (meaning much lower remuneration...); no meaningful counsel position
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
First class work; incredibly bright people; never a dull day; no billable targets; individual autonomy
Cons
The hours; although remuneration and salaries have improved most still feel underpaid; culture in certain groups better than others
