I worked at Sun Life full-time

    Pros

Senior management easily approachable. Flexibilty ( depending on the team you aren in ) Cab service

    Cons

The organisation was amazing until the new management took over the technology Dept. It was this time when Micromanagement began. Healthy place is very important for a healthy mind but few people are completely spreading toxicity in their teams by constantly poking their employees and assigning workload of 4 members to just 1 employee, assigning projects of completely opposite skillset to that of yours, degrading you and not being supportive in work or outside work. There are leads who dont know anything , wont help you and later blame everyrthing at you. Putting unnecessary pressure inspite of deadlines being met is pointless. They'll complain about you to sr. mgt. The onshore people are really nice but not sure whats wrong with these few people, Senior management was supportive earlier but the new management is alike. They will seem approachable but in reality, they are all one. The HRs are also friends with few managers. So your side of strory doesnt really matter. And most importantly, in times of covid instead of supporting their employees they have taken bond amounts from their employees who left. Its very unsupportive attitude as asking for bonds during tough times when companies are coming forward to help the world and you are charging bonds. When new business plans are being processed around the world, it should not be difficult to exempt your employee from service agreements who has served your clients

I have been working at Sun Life full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    • The company is standing strong on its solid history and as a matter of fact, hiring for new opportunities during pandemic situation. • Opportunities to move between roles, even laterally. I’ve gone from a Business System Analyst to a Project Manager to a Scrum Master to an Associate Director for Digital Transformation. I’ve been given free hand to experiment and try new things. Personally, SunLife allowed me to think like an entrepreneur at every level in the company and ensure I hustle to lead anywhere in the World. I’ve also seen people moving laterally to different practices like HR, Communications, Finance etc. • Open and listening culture, open door policy to senior management. Senior Leaders are quite open to new ideas and get involved in execution and mentorship. Company focuses heavily on apt employee experience and worships diversity, inclusion and belongingness. Some of the senior leaders are advocates to this D&I program. From many recreational activities to CSR to health, sports and wellness, amazing food, transport and many amenities available via tie-ups with third parties like Doctor-on-call etc • Immense Flexibility – WFH and other company perks are given, you can lead initiatives that you feel are important in your area of tech and domain, management is very supportive • Plenty of new opportunities coming as global operating model is getting changes for some big programs. This will encompass all latest technologies, tools and processes/ methodologies • Many learning opportunities and some best-in-class training programs by trainers internal and external to the organization

    Cons

    • Pace of technology adoption could be better. My take is company follows a risk averse approach and imbibes ample governance before adopting something new. At the heart of it, this is a financial services company with a 150 year old history and some of legacy systems will take time to move on to advanced technology environment. There is work happening in the area of latest technologies like data, cloud, digital but will have its own journey to make organization wide impact.

I worked at Sun Life full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I began working for Sun Life as a financial advisor to pursue my dreams in the finance industry. This has always been a role I aspired to fill as a child. When I began working there, I did very well. I sold lots of new clients, developed a great clientele, and had the liberty to come and go as I pleased.

    Cons

After nearly four years of devoting all my time and energy to this company, I wanted to move out of the branch office and pursue my own real estate venture in the city, and offer up my own store front for the company. I was spending nearly $2,000 in expenses to the company, and in low volume sales months, I was actually making negative pays. This with a small family at home began to fill my life with stress, depression and ultimately my demise as an advisor. I went to senior management explaining my case that letting me out of my lease will allow me to save on monthly expenses (big time), and alleviate some of the stress in my life financially. I was told that under no circumstances were they willing to help me, and they would rather see me leave and then help me. I was very disappointed in this response after giving nearly 4 years of my life to a company that I had planned giving my entire career to, and ultimately had produced A LOT of new business for them making them money. Ultimately, it was not the job itself I did not like, it was the management, senior management and even head office who treated me like just a number. I felt on a personal level, if this is how they are treating the ones doing all the work, how do they care for their clients who make it all happen? For me it was time to make a switch.
