Poor leadership

Pros

The new building is colorful.

Cons

As mentioned, this company suffers from extremely poor leadership. The owners were handed the company from their parents and it shows. They are very trigger happy with their money except when it comes to paying their employees (the CEO has been buying up mansions in downtown Augusta). If you get an interview, ALWAYS negotiate. If they took the time to get you in for an interview, they most likely do not have another candidate and you need to negotiate while the ball is in your court. Also, most of the positive reviews on this page were contrived. Look at the dates, they are all the same day!

TaxSlayer Response

Our goal has always been to create a positive employee experience for every single member of our TaxSlayer Family and become an Employer of Choice in the Augusta area. We want our employees to feel valued and aspire to be gifted leaders both internally and externally in the community. We understand that sometimes we may miss the mark - but positive change is an ongoing task. We encourage our leaders to create connections through regular conversations with their team – ones that involve asking questions about how they are (discussing challenges the team member is currently facing – at work and outside of work), where they find themselves (reviewing individual results versus goals), and what interests them (personal progression and how their work relates to their career objectives). With that insight, we as Executive Leadership can facilitate overall company goals for both our employees and our business. It is our top priority that employees feel comfortable giving feedback and sharing ideas, with their manager, with HR, or with us personally. We have an open-door policy for that very reason! We are deeply saddened that you have not experienced the TaxSlayer culture that we are so focused on cultivating. We hope that you reach out to us directly so that we can make TaxSlayer an even better place to work! Brian Rhodes, Scott Rhodes, and Ashleigh Wilder

Pros

Get to work with the latest technology and on a product that is meaningful. Most Developers have their own office. Company trip, 1k Christmas bonus

Cons

Health Insurance blows. If you want to move up in the company, you better get on your knees..... and pray that you marry in or something. They dock vacation if you work less than 40 even if you are salaried. They call you salary, but treat you like an hourly employee. Will tell you to meet certain goals and get a "Considerable raise compared to this year", however, the raise you get is less than the year before. Currently going through handing down of the company which could be good. However, this could bring about inexperienced leadership. If you dont go on the company trip for whatever reason, you only get 1 day of vacation compared to ~1800 dollar vacation plus 5 days of pto practically.

Pros

They have automatic deposit. They offer medical insurance and discounted gym membership.

Cons

Long work hours & weekends with no overtime pay as you are classified as 'salaried', you may receive a Christmas bonus but you are then 'required' to give part of it back, as well as throughout the year to their designated charity. Also, the Christmas bonus doesn't have taxes taken out so at the end of the year, you end up owing the IRS, poor moral and turnover.
