Pros

As both a former and current employee, to my delight, daily I have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of families that have someone special with autism. Once the head chef, (before covid-19) it was my most favorite place to cook for people from all over the world. I have since retired from that career. It is now the most amazing experience to show parents, care givers and some others how they can use The Son-Rise Program(R). I look forward the work and they wonderful, kind people that I work with and learn from every day.

Cons

I personally like an earlier day, like 7-3:30, but 8:30 to 5 is okay too.

Pros

I have been working for the Option Institute for 18 years. The work we do here has such a huge impact in the lives of families touched by autism. This week I received a voice message from a child I worked with in 2011 (11 years ago) - this boy had come to our center with his parents when he was 4 years old. Now he is about to be 16, and wanted to tell us about how he and his mom are doing... Not only he has grown and learnt so much because of what we teach here, but he said that he has "precious memories" from his time here with us... If your mission is to help people in life, you enjoy human connection, and a loving environment - here is a place for you! I absolutely love my job, the people I work with, and especially the families we serve!!!

Cons

We are in a rural area where it's difficult to find qualified employees.

Pros

I was talking with a friend of mine last night and they started talking about their job. They were saying how stressed out they are, and how much they work, and how little free time they have for their family. They also went into detail on a variety of other subjects, most of which included judgments and blame, and they were doing a LOT of anger. Even the things they said they “let go” of, they still expressed the words “I let it go” with so much anger, than I strongly doubted that they had let it go. Two things hit me very strongly. One, is the undeniable fact that everything Option has seeped into my soul. While he talked, I did not say much and allowed him to vent, but my internal thoughts included things such as “How is this perfect for you?”, “We can want everything and need nothing”, “the universe is benevolent”, “seek to understand, not to judge”, and “we are all doing the best we can based on our current beliefs”. I smiled to myself every time a new Option concept came to my head as he talked. It became clear to me what my life had looked like before I knew about the Option Process, and I felt immensely grateful to have learned all the things I have learned from being at Option. To know that I have all these amazing tools to help me and I never again have to feel the way he feels if I don’t want to, is so so priceless. The second thing that hit me was how much I love my job. On a day to day basis, I just go about my life and I don’t stop to go “hey, you know, I am actually really enjoying this”, I just do it and don’t think about it. So it was really great to just stop and think “Wow, what a lucky person I am to have ended up here and be doing what I am doing.” I became conscious that I don’t wake up and feel dread about going to work, I don’t feel stressed every day at work, I enjoy every single other person that I work with and email/call/message on a daily basis (and I really mean that, not a bad one in the bunch!), and I get the added benefits of learning so so much about how to improve my life and happiness.
