Pros

Everyone is able to pursue all facets of their talents. Opportunity for self-education and mentors are abundant. Really, it's the people who make all the difference. Coming out of corporate America, it was just very eye-opening to experience such a positive employee-focused environment versus the standard run-you-into-the-ground shops.

Cons

Being both academia and health means the hiring process is very slow, so being understaffed does happen, and it's frustrating. Be patient, and ask for support. They will give it to you.

Pros

State benefits = decent work/life balance.

Cons

No opportunities for promotion based upon merit (job performance or improved/advanced academic qualifications). Fewer administrative positions are becoming available over time, and higher level ones are usually given to someone who the company already has in mind.

Great health benefits, sick leave and vacation time.

Cons

Unchecked supervisors and coworkers that create drama in the workplace. Back handed behavior that is rewarded while the little people do all the hard work.
