Pros

Busy, teaching Level I where nursing has a voice with Docs. Care for the most needy and sickest patients for 22 counties

Cons

After Magnet Journey was over and Magnet status achieved hospital management all changed and returned to how it was 25 years ago (when I started). Nurses are terrorized by Management, Current course is to run of the expensive senior nurses since they are paid max 38.11 hour but UHS has an excellent retirement 80/20 plan,. If you make it to working nearly 30 -35 years you will be costly. They are committed to building a new trauma tower they really cannot begin to afford.

Pros

UH has great benefits if you are staying within network or need urgent care from one of their facilities. It's a good place for new students or people looking to explore the health care field.

Cons

The work environment rewards poor performers by letting them go unaddressed. Instead of coaching these team members, leadership tends to lean heavily on their top performers without appropriate compensation or recognition. The top performers get 3 to 4% raises annually while the lowest performers get 2% - a system that provides very little motivation to exceed expectations when it seems to be perfectly acceptable avoid doing even the bare minimum. UH does not allow for remote work, does not pay for on-call time, and does have company-provided devices.

Pros

Amazing medical faculty. Great working relationship between nurses, medical staff, and ancillary staff. Excellent learning experience. Fairly well staffed. Enough supplies.

Cons

A real issue is that there is an abundance of very young nursing staff. Cliques run rampant and tend to cause issues within the units. Additionally, when leadership within the unit has worked with said clique and they're all buddies....needless to say, certain people get away with murder and others get screwed. They tend to play favorites such as over looking the nurse with 13 years of experience to allow their buddy, who only had a year or two worth of experience to train new staff members. Their decisions are inappropriate and based on who they like and who they go on vacation with....not what is in the best interest of the unit. I loved my job there but I couldn't tolerate the hostile work environment that was being created and condoned. The director would make occasional, brief appearances but one of the PCCs actually ran the show....and she was running it into the ground. Very sad. It could've been an amazing unit
