Pros

I made friends cause all of us had the same struggles and sentiments about the job.

Cons

- as a software developer, the man you will be working under is a sociopath, swears at you, belittles you when you don't understand something, never really gives you any guidance, expects too much from new hires, overworks you. - hours are insane (base hours are 9-6, but you only get paid for 8 of those hours everyday??), and often times you work till 9-11 because of the copius amounts of work - training was abysmal, basically non-existent, yet you are expected to perform starting day 1 - code architecuture is extremely outdated and confusing, made worse by the fact that there is 0 documentation, 0 code reviews, 0 guidance by the tech lead, and he is the only one who knows anything about the code, yet is constantly unavailable but expects you to just figure it out?? - There is no scheduling, and way too many surprises, I could have some tasks planned for the day, and all of a sudden get pulled into another project that I had never worked on and expected to finish more tasks for that, then get back to the current tasks that I already had for the day, and put in overtime to finish if I couldn't do it all by 6. - me and many other employees I know had to skip lunch constantly to put all our focus into work - Pay was lowballed, which I didn't even mind but to mentally ruin us and overwork us on top of that??

Hi ex-software developer. It is quite unfortunate that you did not have a good experience during your short stint at our company. It is also quite unfortunate that you did not bring up any of these issues to HR. We would have been able to help you out. We are quite surprised about each of the points in your feedback. Our staff members only work 8 hours a day and manage their own breaks (including their lunch which is blocked off on their calendars). Additionally, anyone who works more than 8 hours receives overtime payment. This information is available in the Onboarding Policy document that is shared with everyone. Additionally, all new hires are provided with the required training. Those that require additional training are enrolled in external training courses to upgrade their skills. This information is available in our Training Policy document that is available to all staff members. The tech-stack we use is the most modern in the industry, and our technology team is setting new standards and best practices for the world. This is quite evident from the impact that our products are having on students around the globe, and the motivation and pride in workmanship of our technology staff members. We also maintain a live wiki with all the required documentation. Every software developer has access to this information. We are not sure how you did not have access to it. All project tasks are assigned by our well-staffed and highly experienced Project Management Office, with everything perfectly tracked down to the minute detail on our PM system that all our developers are trained to use effectively. We wish you had reached out to HR to resolve your issues. However, we wish you the very best in your future endeavours. Tara

Terrible, Selfish Leaders

Pros

You meet some great people who are trying to build their careers.

Cons

The two co-founders of Vretta are vindictive and toxic. They promote a sweatshop type culture where employees feel forced to work long hours at little pay. If you don't participate, they find a reason to get rid of you. Because of this, seasoned employees don't stick around. The team is comprised mostly of junior staffers who unfortunately don't know any better, and stick around until they realize their worth. The company also creates conflicts of interests for its clients who are public sector employees by wining and dining them inappropriately. Many clients have taken part in company parties and dinners with alcohol and lavish spending. Quite the contrast to how its employees are treated.

Hello former employee, It is sad to see these strong negative feelings that you possess based on wildly false accusations that are not backed by evidence. In any case, I am happy to help clarify your points. Thanks for acknowledging some of the great people you met at Vretta. We appreciate our employees and are happy to say that we have an excellent team of people who support each other. This team was built with the joint efforts of our leadership teams and employees to create a safe and nurturing work environment. Furthermore, all our employees are our greatest strength and we support them while elevating their careers through their journey at our company. Although you may have only connected with junior staff members through your work here, most of our staff members have anywhere between 3 to 20 years of experience. Additionally, the majority have been working with us from 2 to 13 years. They have all been growing into senior positions as our company continues to support the success of millions of students across the world through ongoing technology innovation. We can assure you that in an environment where individual contribution is crucial to their success, those employees who have not proven themselves to be able to fit into a creative team of technology specialists, have found other fitting career paths. We provide industry standard compensation aligned with our staff members’ experience and responsibilities to fairly compensate the work they do. In addition, our employees are entitled to overtime if the occasional business needs require them to work extended hours. We follow an open door policy and our employees are encouraged to discuss further on any of these points if they ever feel that their compensation does not reflect their efforts. We prefer investing in people as they invest in their careers and Vretta's future along with it. We also take utmost pride in following strict Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics policies that are externally audited every year. We wish you the very best, Feride

Pros

- Some friendly coworkers - Interesting initiatives

Cons

Had to give my 2 cents after reading all these obviously fake reviews. 1. Management is atrocious. It was bad from the start and telling by the most recent negative reviews, it’s still bad. No sense of project management, I doubt anyone has formal training in it. 2. They expect you to hit the ground running after 1 month, which is hilarious and not at all the professional standard of 3 months. If an employee’s output isn’t adequate one month in, it’s because you haven’t trained them properly, or because you have outrageous standards. 3. The silver lining to the pandemic I guess is not dealing with the office. Constantly dirty with very little room to spare. Hopefully everyone’s working remotely and isn’t forced to go in. 4. Meetings were non existent and unprofessional. Instead of waiting for the meeting room to free up, some meetings would happen outdoors on the sidewalk with pedestrians and traffic passing by. 5. The CEO doesn’t know what he wants. They’ll hire people for low rates because of high turnover then fire them and continue the same cycle. He will also keep tabs on your public opinions constantly and begs employees to write positive Glassdoor reviews. 6. Loud and intimidating behaviour from upper management. They claim to be a family but know nothing about their employees and take advantage of people who are desperate for work.

It saddens us that you did not have a great experience, although we do appreciate that you were able to work on some interesting initiatives. We do continue to improve on our management and onboarding practices, so please bear with us while we evolve. On the Project Management front, we have encouraged and enabled our Project Managers to be Industry certified and to adopt industry best practices, which have been especially effective on how we now manage initiatives. Post-pandemic we have adopted a remote policy, which helped employees leverage flexible hours suitable to their life-style and has also led to improved productivity. We wish you all the best!
