Why do we call it an activation? What are we activating? đ§
Why out of all the award shows Cannes gives me the most ick? Is it just me thatâs disenchanted by it these days? Not discrediting the hard work a lot of people have put in but thereâs just something about it this year.
Third time GALE gets in touch offering something. The same recruiter. They ended up ghosting me last two without a single real interview apart from the recruiter call. This time they don't even know we've spoke before. For a company with such a low level creative output, they really aren't helping their chances.
How much weight does the initial screening interview have with the recruiter? I donât come off as crazy but every question about the positin was a potential argument or taken as an insult.
My copywriter and I have been applying abroad for months. Visa sponsorship and timing make it genuinely hard. Now a local agency came to us with a promotion and about 25% raise. Hard to ignore. We're also sitting on work that's won recently and could pick up metals at Cannes. So the dilemma now is: do we keep pushing abroad while the momentum's there? Or take the offer, build another year, and try again from a stronger position? Anyone been here before?
Anybody pivot to being a Forward Deployed Creative at an AI company? What kind of backgrounds do hiring managers look for with these roles?

Activation=trying to get a consumer to act, after experiencing/sampling the product. As in, the consumer would sign up or buy it right there. Itâs usually tied to some kind of event. Nowadays itâs used to mean âexperientialâ which is sometimes technically incorrect if thereâs no action the consumer can take towards a purchase after the experience. But if you point it out, people will think youâre pedantic.
ACTIVATE THE SENSES
So... direct response? I mean, isnât all advertising technically âactivationâ of some sort? That award category feels as tacked-on as it gets. And thatâs saying something.
I was going to say that. Itâs a sexy new way of saying âdirect response"
We're activating brand affinity on an emotional level in order to speak truth to shared values and spark social conversations between brands and their followers in order to create a more inclusive society where people of all races genders religions and political views feel safe and welcomed and valued. That. Or just selling shit. It's definitely one of those two things.
