I break my network troubleshooting down into steps. I confirm the issue/s with the client (or myself) Check simple things such as cables, power, device status lights. I would then move on to checking network adapters and IP settings. I would then test connectivity across the network using tools/cmd commands such as Ping or traceroute. I would do them in steps to make it easier to identify and erase causes as I go.
