About the Role
Wong Hing Long Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Operator cum Programmer to lead our high-precision cutting department. This role is a blend of technical office-based programming and hands-on shop floor execution. You will be the primary person responsible for taking 2D/3D engineering files and translating them into high-quality finished parts using our elite Trumpf TruLaser 5040 and Flow Mach 4 Waterjet systems.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Programming: Utilize CAD/CAM software (such as Trumpf TruTops or FlowXpert) to create efficient cutting programs from customer DXF/DWG/STEP files.
Smart Nesting: Optimize part layouts to maximize material utilization and reduce scrap—critical when working with expensive aerospace alloys and thick defense-grade plates.
Full Machine Setup: Independently set up the laser and waterjet systems, including lens selection, nozzle calibration, and abrasive flow adjustments (for waterjet).
Technical Troubleshooting: Adjust cutting parameters (gas pressure, feed rate, frequency) on the fly to solve issues like slag, taper, or piercing failures.
Process Leadership: Oversee the cutting workflow to ensure production targets are met, and lead the first-article inspection to verify that programmed parts meet GD&T specifications.
Preventative Maintenance: Perform and document routine maintenance to keep these high-value machines running at 100% efficiency.
Requirements
Experience: 3–5 years of experience in CNC cutting, with at least 1–2 years specifically in programming for Laser or Waterjet systems.
Software Proficiency: * Strong command of AutoCAD and dedicated CAM software (TruTops, FlowXpert, or similar).
Ability to interpret complex 3D models and convert them into 2D flat patterns.
Technical Knowledge: * Expert understanding of material properties (Carbon Steel, Stainless, Aluminum, Titanium, and composites).
Mastery of GD&T and high-precision measurement tools.
Education: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, or a related technical certification.
