Description If you're calling Qatar, you're calling Qtel. Qatar Telecom, commonly known as Qtel, is the exclusive provider of telecommunications services in the small Persian Gulf country. It provides wireline and wireless communications, including national and international long-distance calling, Internet access, and cable TV services to nearly 58 million subscribers in 17 countries, including Kuwait, Indonesia, and Iraq. The company's joint ventures include Nawras, through which it offers mobile telephone service in Oman, and NavLink, a managed data services venture with AT&T serving businesses in the Middle East. Qatar's government partially privatized Qtel in 1998 by selling a 45% of the company but it retained a 55% stake.
