Exciting time to work for Delta Data

Pros

Delta Data is a great combination of small firm collaboration with large corporate professionalism. We work with a lot of large, sophisticated clients with high expectations, but the employees seem to thrive in that situation. Most employees also enjoy the larger amount of autonomy and responsibility that comes from working for a small firm. We tend to have smaller teams of highly qualified individuals, which allows us to be very nimble and responsive to client demands. It's an especially fun time to work at Delta Data right now. The company went through management and culture changes the past few years, which seems to have paid off. The company raised capital from a top tier private equity firm in 2014 and was named one of the Top 40 Innovative Technology Companies in Georgia recently. There was also a complete overhaul of the branding/marketing and new sales team which has generated excitement and results.

Cons

There are a lot of big projects and work, so it can be difficult to understand the highest priority.

Pros

One may notice a few gloom-and-doom reviews of the company on this site - reviews which refer to the long-gone "Good ol' days" and warn of the company's alleged imminent downfall; however, one should also be provided with the missing context: These same employees were the employees whose skillsets were outdated by about 10 years and could not be bothered to stay informed of new technologies and practices; employees who openly kept Facebook/Netflix open on their computer during working hours while earning senior-level developer salaries; employees who would knowingly lie to management to cover their mistakes/laziness (until more-skilled employees arrived and called them out). After beyond-reasonable amounts of chances and opportunities were provided for those old dogs to learn new tricks (or at least to start doing their old ones correctly), they were finally put out to pasture after failing/being unwilling to turn things around. If you're a skilled and hard-working individual, you will prosper at Delta Data. Your work will be recognized, and you'll be paid what you're worth. You will not find Delta Data developers working at Best Buy/MovieStop on weekends to supplement their income (as is frequently the case with a certain transaction-processing firm in Columbus). It is apparent why many other companies in the Columbus area have lost employees to DDS. At Delta Data, your hours are not scrutinized, nor is your progress micromanaged. The company only hires high-quality staff, and therefore trusts its employees to get their work done within reasonable lengths of time. You will very rarely be asked to work more than 40 hours a week (however, those that go the extra mile will find it to be worth doing so). The benefits are great (although admittedly, UHC is not my favorite healthcare provider) and a majority of them are paid for by the company so that you take home almost all of your salary (aside from taxes). If you're the kind of person that waits around to be told what to do, or who needs to be babysat, you will probably not last here. If not, I think you'll have a hard time finding a better or more enjoyable place to work in the Columbus area than Delta Data.

Cons

The only frustrating aspect of working at DDS is the quality assurance situation within some of the products. There's a lot to be tested, but there are not enough resources to do so to the ideal extent; therefore, a portion of testing responsibility will fall on development.

Pros

The biggest Pro of working at Delta Data is the closeness and friendliness of nearly everyone here. Everyone works hard and is willing to do whatever it takes to make great things happen. There is a reason so many of us have been here for 13+ years. We work with so many different technologies, that it is rare to become bored and complacent unless it is self-inflicted.

Cons

There has been some recent change in the company and some of the senior level employees are "entrenched" and resistant to change and see this change as a negative. The way I see it is that in this industry, you have to adapt and change to survive. I do not know of any Cons related to working at Delta Data. I stand by my review and will not hide behind the anonymity of The Internet. -Noel Lucas
