Pros

The opportunity to collaborate with a diverse and engaging group of participants enhances the overall experience.

Cons

Consistent top-down decision-making, with little to no team involvement. Despite assurances of collective problem-solving, blame often shifts to those who raise concerns. Standards are inconsistently applied, appearing inconsequential to the Executive Director and the board, highlighting a gap between their expectations and the reality of the team's daily operations. Executive leadership exhibits a saviour complex and is completely disconnected from the work. Successful outcomes rely solely on the team's dedication and creativity. Programs for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities need a specialized level of understanding for a truly supportive environment and this is not reflected amongst executive leadership. Basic project management and film production processes are inadequately grasped by the ED, leading to ongoing disputes between the executive leadership and the team.

Pros

I received an opportunity to receive my full PA certification which I successfully obtained. I met like minded people and received valuable information about what it takes to be a PA. I received free training and certification covered by the company.

Cons

Company was liquidated and relaunched without reaching out to any old alumni’s. I received my first job at 11pm in the night from a weird call from my mentor. Working here gave an air of unprofessional buisness practices and scarcity when it came to finding jobs. I tried a few years later to schedule with the new program manager to which they slept through the meeting we scheduled and then never followed through with me on the meeting I had scheduled with them a week before. As an alumni I’m disgusted by this company’s lack of care and organization towards its alumnus and students. I’m so sick of companies like this making programs for marginalized people only for the program to dissapear and the participants are left out in the dust! It’s ridiculous! I put in so much hard work in my PA career only for it to hit a dead end?

Pros

Work with the community, meeting aspiring filmmakers and working with diverse creatives.

Cons

Management has no vision or true understanding of the media/film landscape in Toronto. There's no true or inspiring leadership and you will be asked to do more than what you signed for for little pay. The feedback you give will be used against you later and there's no true management of a team. The organization seems to be at the service of their ego. This place does not care about diversity or fostering safe and thriving environments in the Canadian film industry. They do not care about their alumni or their staff. If you complain you will be seen as a nuisance and they will dispose of you. As long as the same Directors lead this place, I'd recommend stay away from it.
