Culture is gone, the COO rules all

Pros

Great people, and employee ownership sounds great on paper

Cons

In the past few years, the company has shifted 180 degrees. Now, the only opinion that matters is the COO. Decisions aren't made based on what is good for the company, the long term growth of the company, or the employees. The immediate perceived financial performance is the only thing that matters. No investment in employees or resources to advance AVI. No longer any path to career advancement. Rumor has it the founder and CEO are looking to leave, and they are no longer engaged. Such a shame - AVI was a fabulous company to work for just a few years ago.

I used to love coming to work

Pros

Great team atmosphere. I have great co-workers. People make an effort to help each other out in solving problems... that's the ESOP mentality, ownership "we own the solution."

Cons

AVI has a flat organizational structure making it easy to move sideways but almost impossible to move up or be promoted from within. $6000 healthcare deductible is a essentially a pay decrease. It was most disheartening when not long after AVI purchased Dascom Group another employee told me he was rejected for asking for a $.50 hourly raise because the company "doesn't have the money."

Pros

As a project manager it started out fairly well.A lot of clients. A few really talented people. Not afraid to spend money.

Cons

Where do I start. A lot of finger-pointing. When the cat is away.... Redundancy forced corner cutting. Unrealistic project timelines. The company had just implemented a company wide CRM system that is very slow. I averaged 200 mouse clicks per day with an average wait time of 10 seconds per click. That is over 30 minutes per day or 12% of my workday. The health benefits favor young single males, not family's so I did not accept their insurance. They are stretched thin across the board and most projects required outsourcing installation technicians, which required supervision. The internal cost estimates for each project are seriously understated as they assume resources are available and they are not. The office that I was in did not follow the company processes and misrepresented services to clients on a regular basis. Did I mention NO RESOURCES?
