Job search check-in: I've had 4 real interviews in the past 2 months (not phone screens). Made it to final round for 3. Two went with internal candidates, the third had me competing against a whole cohort for limited spots. Two were top tech companies, two were mid-sized firms. Getting these interviews took serious work-networking, referrals, outreach. Final round three times and still no offer is discouraging, but I'm staying on it. Anyone else grinding through this? How's it going for you?

Good thing is that your skills / profile is relevant for the job market and you are qualified at companies like those to go all the way. That is not true for a lot of consultants, specially at tech companies. On top of that, an incredibly tough job market for consulting exits. Keep at it , you will get there.
I appreciate the encouraging words. It’s really hard not to take rejections personally, especially when you’re reaching final rounds.
Yes, agreed - I’m a Sr Mgr at Accenture in AI & Data practice: have been looking for right exit opportunity for 2-3 years - ranging between passive and active. It’s very super tough. Companies want hands on technical skills which I unfortunately don’t have. Or exit ops I’ve easily qualified have required pay cuts with a lateral move and I’m not that desperate. I think the job market is such that’s it’s super duper competitive. A lot of these big companies ultimately give preference to internal candidates. Some are required to post externally before hiring internally. from what I’ve seen and heard, it’ll be easier for you being earlier in your career.
Keep going OP! You’ll get your yes at the perfect time. I was on my last 2 incoming payments of unemployment and landed a role in a week….from recruiter screen (on a Friday) to offer (the very next Friday). It came right on time. I start this month and I’m so grateful. Just gotta keep at it! Wishing you the best of luck on your journey.
In this job market, getting an interview is half the battle. You should be proud that you made it to the final round. Some folks are needing 4-6 months before getting a job and are applying to dozens of jobs (with intention).
Out of curiosity what roles are you interviewing for? About to me in a similar position searching for tech based roles from a consulting implementation background.
It’s tough out here right now! Getting the interview is definitely half the battle right now and have had similar experiences to you. So many final rounds that end up not working out. Keep pushing. It’ll happen eventually!
How many applications did you send to convert to the 4? And how do you know they went with internal candidates - did they openly share? I wonder if that’s a very common thing and unsuspecting candidates are just there to check a box but decision was made long time ago..
That makes sense. I hear that’s a superior strategy too but I’m currently unemployed and feel like I can’t afford few targeted bets
The most success I’ve had has been through headhunters - but obviously those aren’t always the best companies or they are looking for a needle in a haystack
What do you mean by not best companies?
