Pros
Some good people who are a pleasure to work with, and lift you up after a day of dealing with obnoxious and narcissistic management.
Good central location, but no parking.
Cons
Poor pay, poor pension scheme, and very basic (cheapest option) staff benefits.
No staff union. This is a RED FLAG.
HR are constantly telling people how great the place is to work for, but the staff are mostly local recruits who have little to compare against. Other companies in the sector are a lot better.
Some very bad management behaviours which would not wash elsewhere - and modern, healthy, performance management is non-existent.
Expensive to work in town centre without any travel subsidies.
Presenteeism valued above quality of work.
Old fashioned attitudes: mysoginy, croneyism, passive aggression, micro-aggression, and harassment are everywhere and these people don't seem to even know they are doing it or still think it's OK to say or do things that it really is not.
Poor people management skills in senior staff, no management training. Managers don't know their legal responsibilities.
Restricted opportunities for progression based on merit - it's very cliquey and more about who you know and if your face fits.
Processes are all inefficient.
Too much nit picking and red tape.
Slow to evolve.
"New" CEO has done nothing revolutionary and maintains the status quo and old values of the previous CEO (who is the major shareholder and still pulling all the strings).
A few senior managers like to show off about how important they are, and how friendly they are with the board members, whilst passing on no actual information.
Some managers are insistent upon perfectionism, others are barely competent and you wonder how they got the job... Oh wait - the croneyism.
