What is working from home like at BlackRock?

      Pros

It’s hard to get in, but once you’re in it feels like an accomplishment! The staff in the canteen, the security staff and the 5th floor hospitality staff are all super friendly. It’s a great name to have on your CV

      Cons

Currently 4 days a week in the office, that’s what they call hybrid. Quite tired office spaces/small toilets Expect micro-management from those in senior Director positions. Someone senior checks absolutely everything you send internally. You can be pulled up on a typo very quickly You have to be able to manage a lot of work You are given a laptop but you have to log on to a server to access all firmwide information, which is a pain the day you work from home. They still don’t know how to use Teams effectively, you can’t call anyone via Teams. Nobody really chats in the office, you sit there in silence if you’re not in meetings. Pay is okay, but you definitely work hard!

      Pros

You get a great professional network working here Industry leader Decent health insurance/401k options - free mental health support on the health plan regardless of whether you’ve met your deductible is a huge plus, very good 401k/ESPP options

      Cons

Extremely difficult to get WFH Feels like time traveling back to 2017 in terms of lack of WFH options, cringey takes from senior leadership, and dated tech stack Pay subpar compared to industry High turnover Way too many meetings and lack of documentation

      Pros

Friendly coworkers and flat structure. Aladdin is a great platform.

      Cons

Very poor work/life balance. Management openly bully staff who do not work long hours by humiliating them when they leave. Salary and compensation no longer competitive nor does it compensate for the poor brutal tough old fashioned regressive culture. Work from home extremely strict and must be relaxed. It drives talent away. New office location is a shocker - a lot of talent and colleagues will be leaving due to anti commuter location.

Working moms beware - Maternity and Postpartum accommodation is terrible

      Business outlook

      Pros

      Has a good team dynamic.

      Cons

-Your manager might be nice and understanding, but skip-level and top-level managers do not care about your well-being. -If you take maternity leave or require postpartum accommodation and you are not a Director+ level, you will be penalized. Your bonus and salary will be negatively impacted. It will delay any promotion that you have in the running. -Upper management does not care about you or your baby's health. If you try to work from home, it will go through a form process but then end up rejected. If your baby can't take a bottle, you'll need to choose between nursing your baby or working. Working moms - BEWARE!!! -No office party or food. They are really stingy, especially post-pandemic. They even ask you to bring your own mug if you want to drink water. They make it seem as if should be thankful you can actually drink filtered water there.

      Cons

Frat bro culture from the top down Aggressively anti WFH to the point where you will be managed out even with an approved exemption Pay is Pennies compared to market rate Cut back significantly on DEI Senior leadership genuinely does not care about employees You’re probably gonna be replaced by AI Frequent turnover
