Pros
I was freelance and remote
Cons
My experience with the Board was disappointing. I received a vague email terminating my services without any prior discussion, phone call, or professional courtesy to allow for questions or feedback. Even after following up, there was no response or explanation provided. There was a lack of support from the outset — I was expected to attend my first Board meeting without a Board pack or any prior contact. Repeated attempts to engage with administrative staff were ignored, and no assistance was provided. Although I was hired to lead governance improvements, there was little appetite for meaningful change. I was instead encouraged to maintain outdated practices aligned with the Chair’s preferences, and my efforts to modernise processes were dismissed. Governance standards were inadequate: files were not properly maintained in SharePoint, Board packs lacked a consistent template, and meetings routinely ran incredibly late, that is unprofessional and disrespectful to other directors. There were no regular check-ins, and a lack of professionalism in supporting my role. It is strongly recommended that all Directors undertake formal Director training to better understand their responsibilities and the standards expected in contemporary governance. I do not recommend working here.
