The Definition of a Toxic Work Environment
Pros
I loved my coworkers, and I genuinely wish the vast majority of them nothing but luck and love. I also hope they all get out of there before the ship sinks.
Cons
1. Unambiguously low pay that they claim to be the price of working for Disney and "doing what we love". At the end of last year, right after Thanksgiving, they told everyone under the Senior Manager level that they would no longer be eligible for bonuses. This amounted to a pay cut after enduring what had arguably been the most difficult year in Disney's history. Meanwhile, the only individuals now eligible for bonuses were those already earning $125k+. Happy Disney 100 lol. 2. There is no room for growth. They did not even consider promotions from 2022 to 2024 due to the financial turmoil brought on by massive overspending and poor leadership planning. Even if you are promoted, they put you at the bottom of the job-level pay bracket (essentially underpaying you for that title) and only allow for 4% max merit-based raises that do not even make up for inflation. 3. The leadership structure is increasingly vertical, outdated, out of touch with the work, old, insular, lacks any form of transparency (gaslighting is rampant), and frankly, consists of the blind leading the blind. They have no idea how to lead the company from an incredibly bad situation in which Disney was ill-prepared to be profitable in the streaming world. Their tendency is to embrace the old ways (often the ABC television or Disney Studios way) rather than the pioneer, innovate or lead. Anyone who speaks out or addresses the obvious truth is an outcast and is essentially deemed a bad-attitude employee. AKA, you must drink the Kool-Aid and not speak up, or else. 4. Benefits are nowhere near what they were under Hulu. Everything was massively cut (medical coverage, maternity leave, WFH benefits, mental health benefits, you name it, they cut it, etc.) in what was called the "Disney Harmonization Plan" back in 2021. Also, remember, no more bonuses for below Sr. Manager. 5. Your role is not secure, especially as a contractor. They hired exponentially in 2022 to account for a massive increase in workload and then laid off almost everyone who had just been hired, including all contractors, and more so in 2023 without any subsequent decrease in workload. These are the jobs that are now being rehired. 6. High turnover is due to all of the factors above, which certainly gives the company the feel of a revolving door turning over every 1.5 years.
