How are promotions handled at MGM Resorts International?

Great team members, unlimited PTO, some great leaders, interesting projects at times, usually great cross-team interactions

Almost 0 chance of promotions (unless you apply for other positions within the company or your manager is a good friend of higher-ups), poor project planning, lots of direction changes and high amount of projects, focus on hiring short-lived contractors over FTEs, sudden in-office requirement while many higher-ups don't partake, shady practices by some leadership, many lay-off cycles, lots of missing knowledge of some services, tendency to ignore suggestions by engineers when services/projects are struggling

Working at MGM Resorts International offers several advantages: work life flow in my current position. Excellent benefits packages for every kind of insurance you could need and an onsite EDR for the properties. Has a diverse workforce with an abundance of opportunities for promotion and career growth. As a Corporation, the leaders and employees are dedicated to volunteering and giving back to the community through volunteer events and monetary donations to local charities.

While MGM Resorts International has many benefits, there are some drawbacks. Some of the leaders can appear unapproachable and respond in a less than professional manner. For our on-call employees, the hours can be irregular and are the first to have their hours reduced during slow periods. The company is working on updating its operational systems, but for a large Corporation, it just takes time. Interdepartmental communication can be a challenge. Whether it is due to the uncertainty of to whom a communication should be sent or the sheer volume of emails being received, communication could be improved upon. The other area would be for our salaried leaders. At times, the work-life flow can become skewed to them working too many hours and not spending time with their families.

The stability of this company is great.

There is very minimum promotion chance. The pay is not good.

Upward mobility becomes limited after the Manager level. There’s a bottleneck, and minimal in-between titles for financial growth (Sr. Manager, Associate Director, etc.)

Great perks like free parking and access to shows and events. Hybrid workplace allowing flexible work schedule. Unlimited PTO. Compensation was comparable to the duties.

Could be more opportunities for promotion.

Toxic work environment; 6 months prior to me, leaving, over half of the department resigned due to poor leadership; doesn’t care about upward mobility, nor providing leadership training to leaders or coaching
