Pros
work and life balance, good compensation, friendly culture
Cons
unclear leadership direction, new and young managers hired from outside in the last few years and not adhering to the company culture
Pros
Some great people, good pay and benefits, industry leading games
Cons
Unclear strategy, poor communication, no career progression, no corporate structure - everything is about knowing people and getting favors rather than organization and leadership support. Strategies change month to month. Leadership is extremely disconnected from the actual work needed.
Pros
Great team, great work, great coworkers who really care. Campus is amazing, food is amazing. Great work life balance.
Cons
Their pay is lower than competitors and the work progression has a ceiling.
Pros
Great games. Great compensation and benefits. Great talents to learn from.
Cons
Management doesn’t match with its size and stage. Toxic environments especially in some remote studio.
Pros
The best ever benefits I have ever received and would dare to say amongst most famous companies. 13 million dollars insurance coverage, game funds, wellness funds, open PTO
Cons
For the role, in terms of raw salary, you'd receive a much better compensation elsewhere
Pros
Competitive salary and perks. Good work and life balance
Cons
Recently laid out employee-12% of workers across the globe
Pros
- Exceptional benefits package and compensation - Comfortable work environment with great amenities (kitchen, food, snacks) - Talented colleagues and interesting projects - Generous vacation policy - Truly one of the most comfortable workplaces I've experienced
Cons
- The comfort becomes a trap that gradually drains your ambition and energy - Despite working on interesting projects, professional growth feels stagnant - Excessive corporate bureaucracy that slows down meaningful progress - Surprisingly competitive atmosphere with limited genuine connections - Office environment can be extremely noisy and distracting (open floor plan makes concentration difficult) - Disconnect between performance and advancement opportunities - Inconsistent recognition - received praise for being a top performer but no corresponding promotions or raises General advice: Negotiate for hybrid work from the beginning - the office environment can be extremely challenging for focused work. Come for the benefits and salary, but manage your expectations regarding career advancement. If you're highly ambitious and motivated by growth, be prepared for potential frustration with the pace of advancement. This is a place where you can be extremely comfortable but may find yourself years later wondering where your career momentum went. Many employees stay for 7-10 years, which speaks to the comfort level, but raises questions about professional development. The company offers security and stability but may slowly dim your professional spark if you're not careful. Rating: 3/5 - Great for comfort-seekers, challenging for ambitious professionals
Pros
-Great pay, above average in the industry - Good campus facilities - Plenty of amazing people to meet and learn from - Endless opportunities for fun experiences outside of work
Cons
- Management is very hierarchal despite their company values saying otherwise - More cliques and rude coworker behavior than expected - Too many managers who have no business managing people/don’t even want to manage - No job security, especially over the past year - R&D teams treated like separate studios from the core company, which means less resources and support - The company is pushing for genAI use in new splash artwork and other aspects of art for LoL and future projects. Look at their job board - Less resources given to new projects going forward - Most art is becoming outsourced to third parties - Losing its overall magic that attracted the best talent in the industry, hemorrhaging their best artists
Pros
Innovative Environment: Riot Games is known for its innovative approach to game development and player experiences. Working here allows you to be at the forefront of the gaming industry, contributing to groundbreaking projects and technologies. Strong Company Culture: The company places a significant emphasis on its values and culture. Employees often describe the work environment as collaborative, inclusive, and focused on player-centric thinking, which can be highly motivating and fulfilling. Opportunities for Growth: Riot Games offers various opportunities for professional development. Employees have access to learning resources, training programs, and chances for career advancement within the company. Engaging Projects: Working on popular games like League of Legends, Valorant, and other Riot titles can be incredibly exciting. Being part of a team that creates content enjoyed by millions of players worldwide provides a sense of accomplishment and pride. Competitive Compensation and Benefits: Riot Games provides competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits packages. This includes health insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, and other perks that contribute to a high quality of life.
Cons
High Expectations and Workload: The gaming industry, particularly at a leading company like Riot, can be demanding. Employees may face long hours and high-pressure situations, especially around game launches or major updates. Work-Life Balance: Maintaining a work-life balance can be challenging. The passion for creating top-tier gaming experiences can sometimes lead to extended work hours, which might affect personal time and wellbeing. Fast-Paced Environment: The fast-paced nature of the industry means that priorities can shift quickly. This can lead to a dynamic but sometimes unstable work environment where employees need to adapt rapidly to changes. Intense Competition: The company attracts top talent from around the world, which can create a highly competitive atmosphere. This might be stressful for some employees who feel the pressure to constantly perform at their best. Potential for Crunch Time: Like many companies in the gaming industry, Riot Games has faced criticism for periods of "crunch time" where employees work extended hours to meet deadlines. This can lead to burnout and negatively impact job satisfaction and mental health.
Pros
Talented coworkers and passionate peers Fun projects and work Decent compensation They feed you really good healthy food (commuters only)
Cons
Legacy software, bloated processes and management/leadership Typical corporation stuff, questionable workflows and development mindset Work silo/weak communication between teams leading to burnout, lack of understanding when it comes to development vision Leaders and point people are sometimes clueless to seemingly obvious or glaring problems until they are met with big backlash down the line Teams generally produce great results, but it could still been more effecient and better thought out
