How are the career development opportunities at SSM Health?

Great reliable benefits, lots of opportunities, very professional

Actual work experience depends on your immediate managers and their everyday decisions. Too many mid level managers and “support staff” and not enough bedside nurses.

Good teamwork, predictable schedule, kind patients, real opportunity to provide help and support to community

Lower pay, low annual raises, lack of career path

Some of the people were nice.

Short staffed too often. Work place bullying. Couldn’t get time off for school. No career advancement opportunities.

Ideal role if you want a paycheck and want to obtain generalist skills.

Very little acknowledgement or support to Social Workers. Interdisciplinary teams members are dismissive as they expect new Social Work staff to know all aspects of the role. Training is not fluid and leader led; Celebrating Social Work month was an after thought as was only acknowledged via a Thank you email. Little to no career advancement. Little to no skill development

Lots of opportunities for extra shifts with incentive pay Feel appreciated by middle management

SSM makes changes or "upgrades" to make all of their system in other states the same when that is not always realistic or what is best. Some decisions are made by people who very clearly don't work at the bedside or understand what's best for patients.

Love the doctors I work with, they’re the best! And they’re always in a teaching mood, and some of them talk to you as if you’re a family member. It’s never a dull moment here.

Pay, and zero to no growth opportunity. I attempted to learn more and move within the office to be well rounded to prepare myself for a possible management opportunity, but was shut down due to lack of staff or non-dependable staff so I was stuck in the position. Even though during my interview I was told there were several opportunities to move. Also, within the year in the position there has been several people leaving within SSM or quitting all together.

Highly recommend starting here as a graduate nurse.
