What is overtime like at Softcat?

      Softcat reviews

An okay place to work, doesn’t feel quite friendly

      Pros

Great opportunity to work with the latest tech Great office location

      Cons

Felt like I didn’t fit in as a neurodivergent member of staff. Lack of “clear feedback” on how to improve or provide mentorship to improve. Office cliques — internal group chats where people would talk about people behind their back. Forced sense of doing overtime — people claiming over 90+ hours overtime. No work life balance — constantly having to get onto help even though I was given the option to “say no”

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re really sorry to hear that aspects of your time with us didn’t meet your expectations, particularly around feeling included, receiving clear feedback, and maintaining a healthy work life balance. This isn’t the experience we want anyone to have at Softcat. We take concerns about inclusion, team culture, and workload seriously, and feedback like yours helps us understand where we need to improve. We’re continually working to strengthen our support for neurodivergent colleagues, ensure managers provide consistent guidance, and promote a positive, respectful working environment. We appreciate your honesty and wish you all the best in your future role. Many thanks, Linsey

Strong Team Ethos and Earning Potential, but Not for the Faint-Hearted

      Pros

Supportive Culture & Community: Softcat genuinely fosters a positive and inclusive culture. Colleagues care for one another, and there’s a strong sense of camaraderie across teams. The social side of the company is exceptional, with regular events and opportunities to build relationships beyond work. Abundant Resources: You’re never short of support. Whether it’s internal teams or vendor contacts, there’s a wealth of resources available to help you succeed. Collaboration is encouraged, and people are generally willing to go the extra mile. Earning Potential: For those who thrive in sales, there is real potential to earn well. The commission structure rewards performance, and top performers can see significant financial benefits.

      Cons

Saturated Account Base: The account allocation process can feel competitive and, at times, frustrating. Securing high-value accounts often feels like an internal battle, which can impact your ability to hit targets. Repetitive Outreach: A large part of the role involves cold outreach, which can become monotonous. If this isn’t your strength or passion, it may feel draining over time. Performance-Driven Culture: Success is measured almost entirely by numbers. Even if you're putting in maximum effort, it may go unnoticed if results aren’t there. This can be disheartening but is more a reflection of sales roles in general than Softcat specifically. High Commitment Required: To truly succeed, you need to be fully invested. The role demands significant time and energy, and without genuine passion, it’s difficult to maintain momentum. Commission Deduction ("Paying for Your Seat"): After your first year, a fixed monthly cost (around £2,000) is deducted from your commission. While this is standard within the company, it’s worth noting as it can impact overall earnings.
