      Pros

Good salary and benefits, great work-life balance with flexible work options

      Cons

There's a noticeable level of office politics and certain team members are more drawn to the UN brand than the actual work. This environment can sometimes result in valuable contributors being overlooked, while those who are more vocal receive additional opportunities, regardless of their output. Leadership could benefit from being more decisive, especially when it comes to addressing issues that revolve around accountability. Concerns were sidestepped to avoid upsetting alleged staff, which prevented important cases from being thoroughly investigated. Ultimately, I left because I was seeking a workplace that values competence, fairness, and shared dedication to the cause. UNICEF has great potential to do justice for children in Malaysia, but it would greatly benefit from a renewed focus on its core mission and an emphasis on fairness and accountability.

      Cons

-Bureaucracy & Slow Processes: Decision-making can be hindered by complex UN administrative systems and inter-agency politics. -Job Insecurity: Many roles are fixed-term or project-based, with frequent restructuring or post abolishment. -High-Stress Environments: Work in crisis zones or high-pressure HQ roles can lead to burnout

      Your contract type defines you

      Learning and development specialist
      Former contractor
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good sense of positive impact, good salaries and benefits, supportive team. Great chances for Learning and Development.

      Cons

No chance for professional growth if you don't have the proper contract time, seems that this detail defines a lot about you across the organization. Communication with my immediate manager was disappointingly inadequate. The hierarchical structure of the organization made it challenging to engage with other managers without seeking prior permission. This hindered the free flow of information and collaboration, impacting the efficiency of the team. Hard to build an innovative culture, bureaucracy seems to be bigger than its organizational capacity to innovate. This might make many processes really slow and sloppy.
