Pros
Easy hiring process, easy to navigate teaching tools on the platform
Cons
You have to put in an absurd amount of energy to even get one client.
Pros
Flexible hours Good hiring process Large variety of subjects
Cons
Poor accountability for students to show up
Pros
Very flexible and the customer service is great! They are very quick and the interview process feels that it prepares you for the role.
Cons
Stable income may be a little difficult due to nature of role, but customer service can provide support!
Pros
You work from home, the interview process is short, willing to hire people with little to no sales experience
Cons
Where to start... Everyone has to work one day during the weekend, and there are 6 possible schedules all of which suck to varying degrees and are oriented to Central Time, despite the fact that the company serves clients across the country and it's a remote position. Be prepared to work until 10pm some nights or starting at 6am depending on your time zone. You're working from home but it's basically the equivalent of working in a call center. Every second of your shift is monitored like an Amazon warehouse employee, you are basically told in so many words that you aren't allowed to go to the bathroom unless it's during one of your breaks (which, no, you don't get to choose when those are). They will schedule meetings or trainings during the middle of the day, which may or may not interfere with your scheduled breaks, so the onus is on you to move them, but you have to request every single change to your schedule and have it approved by someone who appears to get off on denying requests. Even when they ask you to schedule things on your own, such as self-guided training modules, they will tell you what times during your shift you are and are not allowed to schedule these. They do not seem to trust their employees at all, but also do not trust their customers to know what they want (e.g., when they say, I'm not interested in your services, VT does not believe them and insists that they really DO want our services). Pay sucks. Maybe like 5 sales people are making a decent living but there's no way it's more than that. Also, they'll tell you that you won't be making cold calls, but you definitely will; not only because a lot of the leads you're calling are no longer interested but VT refuses to take them off their call list, but then they will literally make you cold call past clients, including those who have left bad reviews. Also there is zero effort to accommodate for Spanish-speaking customers. There is no Spanish-speaking team, zero attempt to utilize AI (which they are obsessed with) to assist non-Spanish speakers with helping these customers. Feels like they are not taken as seriously as English speaking customers.
Pros
The interview process was easy, resources for session delivery good, payment punctual, free choice over taking on clients
Cons
Pay low considering the time taken to prepare sessions, if you decline a contract (often they were unsuitable as they were in a different time zone) they stop sending opportunities. There is no community feel
Pros
Pay rate for non-us citizens and partnerships
Cons
lack of communication between managers and new hires, lack of information regarding some process
Pros
The interview process was very simple
Cons
I wouldn’t risk it. They let 90% of my cohort go without any notice. At the beginning (week one( they were all about company growth, positive vibes, and then week two of training they started showing their true colors. I mean everyday you’re there for 8 hours in front of a computer learning all this new information and by the 5th day they expect you to perform flawlessly.
Pros
Got to get experience and easy process
Cons
Not the best website interface and inconsistent hours
Pros
It is a remote role.
Cons
Here are all the reasons why you should stay far away from this place (whether you want to be an educational consultant/coordinator OR tutor). The hours and schedules are absolutely horrible. You WILL work night shifts (as late as 11pm), WEEKENDS (Saturdays or Sundays or BOTH), and you will work ALL holidays except Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Years Day. PTO has to be requested over a month before you want to take a day off, and even when you take a day off or are SICK, your manager will STILL message you saying, "feel free to still log in today"...while they go on vacation and aren't expected to still log in. They make it seem like you'll be reaching your goals and getting a bonus every month, but it is not as easy as it seems. The goals are almost unachievable unless you work overtime. Managers will literally ask during the week if anyone "wants to log in for a few hours on Saturday, Sunday, etc." You are also going to be micromanaged like crazy! If you like being messaged for not being on queue because you're using the bathroom, need to let your manager know when you go to/come back from the bathroom, having to send your activity at the end of the day, having people and AI listening in and making sure you don't skip one word in the 30 MINUTE LONG script, and being pushed around to different teams with different responsibilities without any notice or reason (without being able to decline), then this job is for you! This position has taken a toll on my mental health and being here for less than 6 MONTHS has made me realize how disposable we are and all they care about is making money. They make us lie to leads/clients in order to get them to work with us and have been called out by multiple consultants many times. It's frustrating having to look for another job after just starting a new one, but this is what's been going on not only for me, but other people in this role. Not to mention people leave all the time and they are constantly hiring new consultants. Now I realize they do this because people leave so quickly after learning what Varsity Tutors is really about.
Pros
Easy to get hired and easy work.
Cons
Not enough money or advancement.
