How is management perceived at Walden University?

Work from home, great culture, awesome managers, good vertical teamwork

Lack of communication between verticals, difficult IT team, terrible AI integration

Great management, work-life balance, flexibility

Not applicable for cons, I really enjoy this workplace

Pay good. benefits good, time off good

Managers suck big time, regardless of dept.

I guess one pro is that they paid me? Though it was only two-thirds of the salary I was promised.

I was emotionally and financially abused during my time at Walden. It took me just a few weeks to realize the school is set up to take advantage of students of color and veterans. The school's chief revenue stream is taking endless money from students supported by the GI Bill. The plan is to tell students their degree will take x amount of months and x amount of money, and then both those numbers gradually climb as the years go by. It's a brilliant and disgusting business plan. Many managers were sociopaths who took pleasure in the suffering of others. HR could not have cared less. Steer clear, this place is terrifying.

Walden was a great place when it was under Laureate. Truly human centered and cared. After Adtalem bought it, it is all about revenue, everyone is replaceable. Find anything to get rid of you. No loyalty at all.

It has become very mechanical and management has no regard for faculty. Its all about revenue and production. Students should think twice about enrolling.

You can work from home.

There are too many micromanaging supervisors. Instructors with Ph.Ds are not trusted to choose how to teach and assess student work. High school teachers are typically given far more autonomy and decision making power on how to do their jobs. The micromanagement in wanting all instructors to be "the same" (calling that consistency) is ridiculous.

The main Con is poor Management. Depending on what Manager you end up getting could lead to your stay with the company being a living hell. Some in Management seem to be more focused on catching you in a "gotcha" moment than genuinely wanting to see and help you succeed in your role. Also they have way too many administrative tasks and systems which leads to inefficiency. Much improvement is needed in order to streamline workflow and eliminate repetitive tasks.

Remote work, good resources for classes

Management looks for faults and can be passive aggressive, changes are made constantly, enrollment is down so salary paradigm reflects this. There are a lot of managers with online doctorates who truly believe they have arrived. It's amusing to note and tedious to endure. This used to be a good place to work but has gotten consistently poorer as the years have progressed.
