      Entry Level GIS Technician Interview

      12 Aug 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at 3-GIS (New York, NY) in Jun 2018

      Interview

Quick response after submittal. Communication seemed to be an issue as I had a previous interview for another position no one knew about until told them. Standard phone screening. Person arranging interview was very responsive and informative. Next was a week wait for a 10 question test on fiber optic splicing that included a study guide and was open book. You need to be able to think in the abstract. You have 30 mins to complete the test. If you can pass that you get an interview. I scored an 85. I was pretty confident I missed 2 questions. You get the score immediately after you submit the test Interview was a team interview. Great questions and friendly staff. At the end of the interview (on a monday) I was told the hiring team would make decisions on canadiates on Friday. I waited a week and emailed and was told still they were still in progress, another week, another email, etc., 1 inquiry per week for 4 weeks. A week after my last inquiry, I was sent an email with the standard "no thank you". In each of the previous inquiries it was apparent I was still a candidate. A little annoyed they did not tell me it was going to be a 5 week process, but let's move forward. Make sure you leave the interview with a clear understanding of what is next. Questions were more about my industry experiences as I have had 10+ years, but more than willing to take an entry level as I had been away from Industry for just as long. I think they either got annoyed because I kept inquiring or were not convinced that I was serious. If you have 0-2 years or a college graduate looking for work, might be a good fit. Be knowledgeable of technology and industry and you should be a shoe in. They are friendly people so relax and you should do fine.

      Interview

Leaves a lot to be desired. Took about a week to hear back after applying, which is fine. Talked to HR, she was nice. Then I got some assessments and tests, they were also fine. So far so good I thought. Over a month later (yes an entire month) I received word that they liked what they saw and wanted to do another interview. Great. Did that, went well, or at least I thought it did. It's been over two months since the last interview and nothing. I emailed them a couple of times, got some generic responses. I can only assume I did not get the job. Communication was horrible overall. When you are looking for a job in trying times, it is really disheartening to not hear anything. At least be constructive and let me know I didn't get the job. At least I know something. 3-GIS, step your game up when it comes to interviewing and communicating with potential candidates. It's pathetic. You shouldn't leave candidates wondering. Tell us what's going on. Honestly, I am glad I didn't get the position. I feel I dodged a bullet. Communication is important and I don't want to work for a company that fails at it.

      Interview

Awful. Complete and utter lack of communication. How can you work for a company that takes months to get back to you during the interview process? How can you work for a company that then never tells you if you did or did not get the job? Leaving potential candidates to assume they didn't get the job is a pathetic and coward way of handling people.
