I applied online and received a message asking to conduct an initial phone interview with the Vice President of Marketing Strategy. He was extremely friendly on the phone and it was a very relaxed phone call. The call was pretty brief and I was informed that another team member would reach out to schedule a time for me to come into the NJ office to meet with several employees. Since it is a smaller sized company, meeting with several employees means meeting with more than a third of your potential co-workers. This allows you to truly get a feel of what it would be like at the company, and allows for the team to holistically see if you are the right fit.
A few days later I went into the office and met with 6 employees; two at a time. Every employee was nice and the majority of them made it feel like more of a conversation than a grilling interview. There were a few questions that made me pause and think, so they do try and really see how you think and handle situations, but besides that it was typical questions you would expect. The team had not lost an employee in over 2 years, which says a lot about the company culture. It genuinely felt like the employees enjoyed working there, and it truly seemed like a great environment. Several of the individuals I met with were people that I could see myself becoming friends with and spending time with outside of the office.
Two days after the interview I received a message saying they decided to move forward with another candidate. I appreciated their quick response and the fact that they reached out to let me know instead of keeping me wondering.
Overall impression of company from interview: very friendly staff and leadership; great communication; fun and open work environment.
