I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at AI Fund in Mar 2023
Interview
A recruiter reached out to discuss a PM role at one of their portfolio companies. She brought another recruiter onto the call, but after that, I never received any follow-up on next steps, despite reaching out several times. It felt like my time was used more to train the other recruiter than to discuss a genuine opportunity. If the recruiter wasn’t prepared to move forward or provide a clear answer, a simple update or even a rejection would have been appreciated. The lack of response felt unprofessional and disrespectful of candidates' time.
We sincerely apologize for the unsatisfactory experience you had with our recruitment process. We deeply regret the lack of communication you experienced and we understand that this left you feeling unappreciated. Please know that we take your feedback seriously and will use it to improve our processes, ensuring that all candidates receive timely updates and clear communication moving forward. We appreciate your interest in the Product Manager role and the time you took to share your experience with us. If you are still interested in exploring opportunities with our company, we would be more than happy to reconnect with you and ensure a more transparent and respectful process.
Standard behavioral questions; recruiter came across as deeply inexperienced, bored, and not very thoughtful. Compensation was below market for their AUM by over $100k in cash comp and hundreds of thousands of dollars in carry. It is very clear that the fund is not investing in talent appropriately. AI is the hottest sector right now, and their lack of rigor in interviews, and their deeply off compensation philosophy means they have little hope of competing with companies like a16z, OpenAI, or Sequoia for talent. This may be why they have had no runaway hits 7 years in.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at AI Fund in Jul 2024

2 Step Interview and technical
The intro interview was a get to know you and followed by technical interview.
Technical wasn't very detailed or hands on, which I wish the interviewer would have done as I was more advance in a few areas .
