      Retail Assistant Interview

      7 Feb 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Sydney
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at ALDI (Sydney) in Feb 2016

      Interview

A very laid back interview that consisted of the area manager giving 5 minutes to each candidate to interview each other and then introduce them to the whole group. Next she talked about the history of Aldi and what they do, and then asking each candidate what they knew of the company. Then there was a walk around of the store including the stock area, the retail floor and the cardboard crushing compartment. Lastly, she handed each of the candidates a blank piece of paper and asked our availability and a mini test at the end that consisted of writing down answers to basic math questions. why you ask? well, to my (and soon to be yours) surprise. The cash till's DO NOT provide you with the amount of change to give back to the customer. Yes, you read that right. Once you scan all the items and the register tells you the total amount owing, you will have to manually calculate the amount to give back to the customer from the cash that the customer gives you. Apparently, this is done due to some research they did that found that when you calculate the change in your head you're less likely to make mistakes. This on top of, all the stocking, cleaning, reshelving, customer service, looking out for thieves, handling spills, putting away orders and all the other things you have to do in a retailing environment. Also, the area manager told us that, one of the ways Aldi keeps its prices low is by running a lean shift system. That means there will be times where only you and the manager is running the whole store. (There were only 2 people running the store, when we had our group interview). The pay is good, but you have to really WORK for it.

      Retail Assistant Interview

      22 May 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Stechford, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at ALDI (Stechford, England)

      Interview

Was overly complicated and too many stages, online test x2 and a recorded interview. Application itself is very tedious and is not very friendly to new users. Apparently you need to know someone already in ALDI to work at there stores.
