I applied online. I interviewed at Acclaro (Candelaria) in May 2026
Interview
The interview process is completely dishonest. The firm does not disclose its rates upfront, which creates the impression that it is trying to obtain linguists at the lowest possible rate rather than ethically engaging with qualified professionals. I had a very unpleasant experience with this firm. The role was presented as a long-term freelance opportunity with regular assignments. After I provided my proposed senior-linguist rates, the recruiter responded with the company’s maximum budget: USD 0.07 per word or USD 27/hour. After I agreed to those rates, I was invited to complete a one-way online interview, where I had to record answers to three questions. There was no live interviewer and, more importantly, no meaningful opportunity to give context or elaborate on my answers, as I had barely eleven minutes total to answer all three questions. Shortly afterwards, I received a generic rejection stating that the company would not move forward with my application, despite meeting and exceeding the position requirements. Based on Acclaro’s own “transparency” principle, I asked for clarification. Unfortunately, I was simply told that I “wouldn’t be the best fit.” No specific or legitimate explanation was provided regarding the actual reason for the decision.

Question 1
1. Describe your process for approaching a transcreation brief. How do you go beyond literal translation to ensure the translated content evokes the same emotional response and achieves the same strategic goal as the source, considering cultural nuances? Illustrate with a brief example.
2. Elaborate on your experience with entertainment platforms.
3. Every iconic series has a turning point. Identify a key character or plot twist in your favourite series that you felt was particularly polarizing. Why do you think the creators took that risk, and did it ultimately help or hurt the show's brand?

1st screening video interview (30 mins). The HR is informative and helpful. They will not make you wait around for the decision, which I appreciated - informed me after 2-3 days from the first screening interview.

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Acclaro
Interview
From start to finish, the application and interview process took over 2 months. The first was with the recruiter and was pleasant, but it took them over a month to get back to me. After that, it was two hour-long interviews, each with two senior members of the localization team. The first of these two was fine and went well, but the second, I don't think either of the women looked up from their computer screens the entire time. They seemed very effusive about my qualifications, but expressed concerns about me working in a timezone other than my own. Regardless, I was promised a decision no later than a week later. Fast-forward over TWO weeks, and the recruiter emails me to let me know they are going in another direction. The individuals I spoke to (besides the two last people that did not engage or look at me) were nice enough, but geez louise, do they need to streamline their process, work on their timing/communication with candidiates, and polish up their emails -- they were riddled with spelling errors that made them appear very unprofessional. Honestly, glad it didn't work out, the interview process left a rotten taste in my mouth.
