I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Achievement First in Aug 2009
Interview
Filled out an extensive online application-make sure you indicate you favor a tradition, teacher-led approach if you want to move one
Was called for a phone interview-they will give you scenarios and ask how you would handle-again-lean toward the tradional, and make sure you indicate that when you lesson plan and teach you use an I (teacher teaches) WE (class practices with teacher) YOU (students get independent practice) and then an assessment to make sure students achieve mastery.
Went in for model lesson-make it simple, but give opportunities for students to stretch-when you are there, focus on classroom management-state expectations up front to kids and then hold to your rules-try to get as many kids participating as possible-that os what they are looking for
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How would you have changed the way you taught your model lesson to improve it. (This has to be answered off the cuff right after your model lesson)
I interviewed at Achievement First (Providence, RI)
Interview
The interview process seemed to be quite simple and straight forward. I spoke with a recruiter after I applied and did a phone interview with them before setting up an interview for in person with the principal. The entire process was pretty straight forward and explained prior to the in person interview.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They asked how I create a welcoming environment for all cultures and people.
Smooth on location lesson demo feedback on lesson plans could be a little bit faster with the response and picking date for interview
Staff seems nice
It was an average teacher interview review your résumé go over your lesson demo and then that's when they decide if they're going to offer you an offer letter
Phone call and then an in person demo lesson with real students and in the moment feedback. Usually a reading lesson or science lesson. Be ready to implement feedback in the moment and take direction from leadership
